i have not seen the alien films but i have an idea of the general plot. heard this is a prequel so decided to watch this, didnt think it was that great, my feelings can be summed up in pic related.
would i appreciate it more if i have seen the alien film first? what do alien fan think of this film? a bit of this film is unexplained and seems like its more for people who have already seen the alien films.

Seeing Alien is minimal, but that's it.
It's a prequel trilogy.
It's not a one off.
>>68643179
Ok, but the film is pretty hollow in and of itself.
bamp.
Oh fuck just reading up on this film and have seen someone recommend "to watch chris stuckmann explination of the film as to why it brilliant".
>>68643085
I love Alien and Aliens, and I liked Prometheus, but I think I might be in the minority.

That's ridley scott, he's a very visual style director, Alien and Blade Runner as examples. He's great at what he does, but yeah, it's noted his style over content.
that's not a bad thing, it's not pretentious. he's not trying to draw some jesus symbolisms with imagery of some other stupid shit.
At most he draws analogy with Lawrence of Arabia, a fucking kinofilm if ever there was on. This movies 'engineers' aren't retcon either, they were shown in Alien.
This movie should have come sooner then alien 2 3 4 AvP or AvP2. It's odd, but fulfilling that the big alien in Alien is finally discussed.

Alien was a movie that changed the shape of cinema. It's a landmark movie, and this is a real sequel. Aliens was an entirely different franchise.

I am actually a fan of ridley, i have seen some of his other works like blade runner, but again thats what i feel, style over substance. what annoys me is people are like "the problem with this film is its too smart and people are too dumb" i think the problem with its film is that it sets up a premise but rather than explore that instead decides to spend most of its time killing off the cast, and some of the characters do that stereotypical thing of being stupid and getting killed. i really wanted to like this movie but its pretty hollow as a story.
>>68644414
What has that got to do with watching chris stuckmann?
>>68643085
Its best to just forget this mess and go watch Alien and Aliens
>>68643085
it's one of the worst movies I've sat all the way through
Alien is great though
Prometheus is a well made movie with a shit script
you really should have just watched Alien first, though, you dumb nigger
>>68644623
I said why i didnt you salty bitch.
people complained that the reason this film got negtiv reviews was that people had watched alien and because that was such a great film this looked bad by comparison.
so i thought a fair way to judge the movie was to watch it first so as to give an unbiased view. still think the film was rubbish, am gonna watch the alien films next.
There were a few references to the Alien movie, weren't there?
So, you'd be wise to watch the first one, and that's it.
Prometheus's problems are
1) a lack of likable characters
2) a lack of characters making smart decisions
3) a plot that relies on dumb decisions being made
4) a plot that is nonsensical at best
Alien does not have those flaws, and has the better design with a grimy industrial aesthetic.
1) cast of smart likable (mostly) characters
2) characters have distinct personalities
2) natural-moving plot
I suppose the only thing to be said about it is that it isn't too much "scary" anymore, because so many movies have refined the techniques it pioneered.
Aliens is a totally different movie, but is James Cameron at his finest, so it comes heavily recommended.
Alien3 and Alien: Resurrection are both shit, but the former is miserable shit, while the latter is entertaining shit.

>2) a lack of characters making smart decisions

Pretty much this is my major problem with the movie. i honestly didnt care that it wasnt scary or the fact it had unanswered questions, hell i didnt even mind the unllikeable characters. it just came across as very lazy writing but because it mentions that we were aliens and suddenly fanboys are like "you dont get it because it too deep"baka
>>68643085
You would probably like it even less if you'd seen Alien.
>>68645426
aha damn man. looking at reviews im just surprised how many people are trying to "give it the benefit of the doubt" just because its tied to alien and its director. why are they so afraid to admit its a shit movie?
>>68643085
since prometheus is just a big recicle of the alien ideas probably yes
though i also seen prometheus first and i liked alien even more
>>68643179
>It's a prequel trilogy.
In both the literal and rhetorical sense.
>>68644435
The problem with this film is that all the exposition and the best version of the climax is in the deleted scenes.
prometheus biggest problem is that the script needed another draft solely to add consistency to the characters and their motivations, and wipe out most of the obviously dumb decisions they keep making.
if you can't fix it without having your scientists act retarded at times to drive the narrative, then you fucked up and need to start over.
this is unsurprisingly one of the biggest complaints about lindelof, and scott has never been much of a writers director so its kind of a bad fit.
at the same time its hard to put this definitively on one person. it feels like it might have been stupidly editted like things are missing, and i know they were listening to the actors a lot in this production.
too many cooks trying to build slightly different puzzles perhaps?
>>68643085
You dun goofed OP. Since when is the prequel ever better than the original movie.
>It's a prequel trilogy.
Spiritual prequel, not the same continuity.
Prometheus is a brilliant film with a deep plot that too-accurately portrays human behavior, which triggers simpletons. Realism often looks unrealistic to the deranged, low IQ /pol/ garbage which pollute this board. Inhumanly low IQ, I should clarify.
Alien is a mindless exercise for idiots, apart from a single scene that lasts all of a few minutes.
Prometheus is the far, far, far better film.
>>68647706
This is 10/10
>>68647569
It is the same continuity, you drooling retard.
>>68647532
Did i say it was, or expecting it to be.
people complained it was bad in comparison to alien. my point is its a bad film all on its own.
>>68647706
Given how stupid the crew were its amazing they lasted as long as it did. if anything this movie is a mindless sub par wannabe horror film.
