We are actually in what will eventually be considered a golden age for star wars right now.
New movies coming out yearly is exciting and fresh. I'm sure it will get old eventually but for now its awesome to finally see it after ~10 years since Episode III.
We are also at the beginning of an entirely new continuity, with new content being released every month for fans of not just only the OT, but also the Prequels and the Sequel trilogy.
Not to mention, being a new continuity, all of the stories we are getting are pretty high quality.
They haven't quite reached the level of the best the old EU had to offer, but it sure isn't as bad as the old EUs worst. Lost Stars, Tarkin, Lords of the Sith are all awesome. Not to mention the comics which, even though the ongoings aren't that good, find awesome stories through the one-offs and mini-series.
And on top of ALL THAT, Star Wars Rebels is finally finding its footing and producing some episodes that are even up to the quality of the theatrical movies (see picture related)

It's only three and a half years until episode IX. Disney will keep on pumping out trilogies until the brand is meaningless. Episode VII gave me a bad feeling it will be the Marvel model of constant teasing with no pay-off. It told us nothing about the bad guys, nothing about the galaxy, Han dies, and we see Luke's face for 30 seconds. Next episode we'll probably get some cryptic clues about Snoke and a hint that someone is related to someone else, plus five more mysteries to string people along. It was nice going back to the same universe for the nostalgia trip but there's obviously no vision except pandering, and that doesn't lead to inspiring movies.

I casually enjoyed the previous Star Wars movies while younger. Entertaining, nice soundtrack, iconic visuals.
Episode VII is better than all of them. Anyone who doesn't see this probably calls themselves a "fan" and have rose tinted nostalgia goggles with 10cm thick lenses. If this was released first and the others were prequels, people would praise the character of Darth Vader/Anakin but recognize that everything else was handled better in Episode VII. The rey character was clearly written to be the solo offspring. It was supposed to be Ben in her role. After the script was done Paul Marketing walked in and said "You should make one of the leads a female, that's popular right now" so they quickly changed everything to make Rey a girl.
If Rey was Ben Solo then the entire movie makes more sense. You only have to change a few small things like dialogue which often gets changed on set.
