Who cares? Its honestly much better and more believeable than the opposite:

>Character asks for a soda.
>Is handed a can of soda that says "SODA" on it.

I don't mind product placement as long as its not so in-your-face that it fucks up the show.

I prefer real life products to fake shit tbqh.
I dont really care that the producers are making extra shekels by selling sponsorship ads.
I'd rather see a few friends in the show go out to McDonalds then going to Big Burger.

Honestly, The Sopranos had a pretty lasting effect on me in a way few other shows/books/movies/games/whatever ever have. I watched it the summer/fall after the final season finshed over the course of a few monthes and it really had a lasting effect on me as a person, and altered my outlook on life and perception of the world at least a bit. It was in my early twenties at a pivotal time in my life, so maybe that contributed, or maybe The Sopranos actually was part of what made it a pivotal time. At any rate, it affected my sense of humor for the darker, and altered my outlook and worldview froma more idealistic one to a more cynical and realistic one, and affecting my sense of humor for the darker. In a way, I think that was good because it helped me pull my head out of my ass, get my shit together and cut the bullshit. Anyways, the roundabout way this relates to your comment is how I find myself thinking and acting like Tony more to this day. Its not intentional at all, but the wayI think and act kind of gained something from his character and attitude and demeanor, whic says omething for how damn good and affecting of a performance he gave and how powerful of a character Tony was.

Also, they must have had funding from pharmaceuticals with all the drug naming, like Wellbutrin which was doing a big media push back in the late 90s.

Meh, I am personally fine with product placement as long as it isn't called attention to or given too much lip service. Hell, I like it better then generic products since it feels real and grounds it.

Sopranos was honestly fine, I never really felt like they went too overboard with it and the writers were able to incorporate it fairly well without feeling forced for the most part. I think there was a few earlier season episodes that it did feel a little noticeable, but for the most part it was OK.

An example of bad product placement is shit like this, where you could literally cut it out and use it as a goddamn commercial:
https://youtu.be/oQYwFND7rHE

Or what Adam Sandler does in a lot of his shitty films.

i don't know how much stock you can put into this, but on the special features disc they said that they didn't get paid for any product placement - but when they would show a product, they would usually get something sent to them the next week.

just be glad it wasn't on this level:

As long as it looks natural i have no problem with product placement. It's when it gets really blatant that I start disliking it. Near the end of the movie Twister they had a huge bag full of empty soda cans and if you look, every single one of them is some kind of Pepsi product.

As much as I hated, hated, hated Tomorrowland I appreciated how at the beginning they had Pepsi plastered all over the screen and later they were drinking a Coke.
