The main characters are Jon, Dany, Tyrion, Bran, Arya, and Sansa, though you could argue just the first three. Jon's not more important than Dany or Tyrion, his story beats have just had more in common with a standard hero's journey.
BUT the title of the series is in part a reference to him - "his is the song of ice fire," but mostly just a name that fits well for a story about dragons and ice monsters.

In general I find it a frustrating read when it comes to prose, because there are big stretches where it's purely functional and nondescript, but then all of a sudden it will really come alive or remind you how good he is at getting into the heads of his characters.
On the level of story and character - not caring at all about prose - I have almost no qualms.
