No that was a previous scene, he just stole away with the Indian guy's horse that helped him. I think the film's excuse was that he was passed out in the snow for quite a while which begs the question why did the Indians chasing him just stop suddenly? He fell down a cliff that was like 150 feet and the entire Indian band is nowhere to be seen afterwards even though he kills 2 of them.
