Isn't that cronyism? Yeah, but the key difference between Lena Dunham being hand picked as an 'important creative voice' by the NY Times way before she was famous, and Harrison is luck v.s. real connections (was he even George's friend at that time or just someone who's face and personality could work for a few scenes in American Graffiti?) and merit (Harrison is good at what he does. Look at Nick Cage, he can play a fucking lunatic like no other actor can - he's also a Coppola)
But I think an even bigger problem is ideology. Star Wars has no real ideology to it, George didn't care what Harrison's religion was or political leanings, he wanted someone who could act. Meanwhile a lot of these other more sinister forms of nepotism and cronyism is religiously based and ideologically based.
It's these three factors:
Was it luck and coincidence? Is that the major factor? If yes, then so what if Nick Cage was a Coppola, it almost hurt his career than helped it.
Is there any merit? No, Lena Dunham is awful, she's an awful writer, an awful actor, and repellent as a human being.
Is this an ideological appointment? In which case, unfortunately, Judaism (and all religions) is a factor. Along with Liberalism, conservatism, and supporting certain politicians or not or going along with political movements (like fighting against or capitulating to McCarthy's witch hunts).
Finally, what can people even do about it anyway? Vett everyone all the time for any kind of vague connection? Discriminate against certain religions if the producers are the of the same faith? That's fucking stupid.
