That movie series has no bearing on this one, and it plays fast and loose with the characters. Hell, Batgirl was Alfres's niece instead of Jim Gordon's daughter.
Anyway, up until 1983, Robin was always Dick Grayson, including in the 60s TV series. Dick grew up and became his own hero, Nightwing.
Jason Todd was the second Robin, and was far more hotblooded than Dick. He wound up murdered by the Joker, but was revived, went a little insane, and took up the title of Red Hood as an antihero who fights crime but does so with lethal force. You should watch the movie Under the Red Hood; it's very good.
There's been at least two more Robins since; Tim Drake and now Damien Wayne, but that answers your question.
