Most of it seems fine but I seriously can't imagine Gleeson playing a badass scientist fighting aliens, I would imagine someone a lot older looking like Damian Lewis (Homeland) or Toby Stephens (Black Sails).
Same goes for JK Simmons. He's very built and in-shape, as well as having a strong voice so I can't see him in that role, maybe someone a little more like Gary Oldman.

I think Freeman and the scientist (not necessarily the one in HL2) would have to be the two main characters, so I was thinking about what their relationship would be.
I felt like Freeman would have to be the weak unlikely hero, which Gleeson is great at, and Simmons being more of a mentor with a bad temper. But hey it's a work in progress
