Guy's im 23 and I don't know how to ride a bike, how do i learn ??
I hated it as a child because the training wheels were always wonky and i felt unstable and was scared of falling off, so i never learned...
>>
>>68187392
get on a bike. pedal. if you stop pedal, you will fall off unless you put your feet down on the ground. if you keep pedaling you wont fall.

i learned how to ride without training wheels when i was like 5. you're 23.

Is it weird that this is probably my favorite movie of all time? It's a movie with basically no ongoing plot or narrative or even purpose, but every single line makes me laugh out loud. Am I a pleb?
>>
>>68187646
Only a helmet

You WILL fall, only on the first day, a couple of times.

Get a single speed bike and then turn it into a fixed gear when you're ready =)
>>
>>68187701
you have to know how to ride them to steal them
>>
>>68187701
You gotta learn how to ride one before learning how to steal one silly
>>
>>68187748
thank you for the help
>>
>>68187392
practice balancing walking on a narrow surface of some kind, then just hop on a bike, push forwards, try to roll without falling, upgrade to pedalling as it rolls, and within at MOST 2 hours you should be able to get from point A to point B
>>
>>68187830
Also you won't be at risk of falling too often as long as you aren't the type to jerk the steering around when you feel like you're losing balance. Most falling occurs after you know how to ride and you get cocky
>>
Stop telling this guy to ride a bike, he's gonna get himself killed!
>>
>>68188182
don't be silly anon, it's not like drivers don't actively look for cyclists on the road!

>>
>>68187392
Literally it is a trick of physics.

When an object is moving forward it is less inclined to be laterally instable.

Essentially keep pedaling
>>
>>68189875
it has nothing to do with forward motion of the bike, but the gyroscopic effect of the wheels

grow up some balls then
>>
>>68190261
thats ageist sexist, transphobic and bigoted view anon, i can express my adulthood however i want, also you shouldnt assume people have balls that can be triggering (tho i do have balls and dont face oppression since im not trans)
>>
>>68190261
even now thinking back to when my dad tried to teach me how to learn it soft-triggers me how scared and uncomfortable i felt getting on a literal knee-scrape machine that wobbled EVEN WITH stabilisers,
why couldnt it be like a tricycle with stabilisers on
there really needs to be safe rehabilitation offered to adults who never learned how to ride bikes when they were younger

Dude, my grandpa took on himself to learn to ride a bike when he was 40-50, like he had grown ass children and a house, and one day he went to a meadow and decided to learn how to ride a bike, my mom and aunt always talk about it and laugh when we touch the subject of bicycles, he's also the person who taught me how to ride a bike, so there's definitely hope for you.
Just buy protective gear and you'll be completely fine, your palms and knees would take the most of the beating.

I taught myself to ride a bike without training wheels at 3

I unironcally had a lot of potential for something like motorbike racing or car racing but never had the opportunity. Now I just sit inside getting really good at Dirt Rally

>can't swim
Just go in a small pool and practice laps, I don't fucking get how people don't know how to swim despite bodies of water being everywhere.

Also if you float on your back you won't drown.
>>
>>68187392
Honestly it's like other people said it's about developing the confidence to realise that you won't fall over provided you keep peddling, you barely have to apply any pressure even still, it's just a matter of developing this confidence and you'll never have a fear of cycling. Honestly if you go slow enough and think the bike is going to stop you can just put your feet down.

my town is actually on the Connecticut shore, and I love going to the beach, but every time i get in the ocean and try to swim, i just flop around a bit and end up pussying out and walking back to shore.
>>
>>68195098
I took adult swimming lessons at 23 and was stuck in a pool full of 65+ year olds, it was kind of embarrassing but I learned how to swim.
>>
>>68187392
falling off is part of learning how to ride a bike
>>
>>68195278
>>68195327

what if i drown?
>>
>>68195263
Try it out at a small pool first, I can definitely see the ocean being intimidating as someone who dives out in Mexico every year.

If you need some inspiration just know that I'm a 270 pound fat fuck and I can swim and scuba dive easy, you've got this in the bag anon.
>>
>>68193425
shut up nerd that movie was great
>>
>>68190594
Don't worry anon, I feel the same way with driving. Had some really bad experiences with it when I was younger, so I get anxious just thinking about it.

If you are really worried about falling over, I suggest practicing on grass. It will a lot harder to pedal but at least if you fall it will barely hurt compared to concrete.

>>68187355
entry level kino
>>
>>68195263
I had a friend who didn't know how to swim, and I think the biggest problem was that he wasn't "kicking" correctly. The first thing anyone should be taught is how to float with their feet; this usually involves hanging onto a ledge and act like you're trying to kick someone in the shins really fast.

When you look at other people swim the most obvious motions you'll see are going to be with the arms, but don't make that mistake if you're just starting out. People who do that generally have to kick very lightly and quickly to stay afloat. I would say find a friend with a pool if you really need to. Public pools would be perfect because of the defined ledges and space; if you really want to learn quickly, go to one, hang onto the ledge with one arm, and swiftly move your feet back and forth until it feels like your bones are breaking. Don't move your arms till you're used to moving your feet.

it's part of learning
