You have to remember that a Rv series with aspirations to tell stories as well as film wasn't a thing before Sopranos. It was breaking new ground. But even so I don't find it awkward.

also, why did he tell tony that he was on drugs? he was writing his own death sentence then and there by mumbling about "passing the drug test", he should know that tony wouldn't react kindly to him relapsing, just look at how tony beat the shit out of him after he relapsed during the whole adriana incident
