The XIII trilogy killed the brand in the long run. Sales took a nosedive at each game. It also damaged the entire japanese industry. People used to think JRPG were good until the XIII trilogy happened. Hey, I'm not saying it wasn't a dipshit idea- but with that kind of budget and a well put together adventure story, you COULD make a good western, probably even one that would revive the genre's popularity.
