What was the best incarnation of Star Trek?

Guys please. I watched TOS and tried to give TNG a try, but I couldn't get into it.

Babylon 5

Did you just start watching TNG episode by episode from the beginning because it's pretty rough that way to be honest. Instead, I would recommend looking up a list of top rated/essential episodes and working through those.

Also, if you haven't watched the TOS movies yet, you should definitely jump on those. It was actually the movies that made me a Star Trek fan.
>>
>>68165317
Yeah. I watched the first 3 episodes and just wasn't feeling it. I will look up a list of best episodes and watch them as well.

Also the only movie I watched was wrath of khan for the memes.
>>
>>68165192
Thank you for the list as well.

Any recommendations on which one I should watch first?
>>
>>68164406
That episode of SG Atlantis where Teyla sings.

"Darmok" and "The Measure of a Man" are the episodes that have worked best for me when tricking someone new into liking TNG.

But really though, once you do fall for the TNG meme, go back to the beginning and watch them all in order. Otherwise you won't be able to participate in all our meme-filled repost generals.

I'll second "Darmok" and add "Q-Who," which has the first appearance of the Borg.

It's also hard to go wrong with "The Inner Light."

Honestly DS9 is years ahead of everything else in terms of acting and writing, both plots and characters. Most of the secondary characters are fleshed out better than main characters in other series.

The best of TNG can be some of the best 45 minutes of TV you'll find anywhere, but 95% of that series is shit. DS9, outside of a few truly horrific episodes (mostly early on) are fantastic. Binge-watching every episode in order isn't a slog like it is with VOY or ENT, and you don't get entire half-seasons of unwatchable crap all in a row like TNG has.

Also, spoonbros for life.
>>
TOS > DS9 >= TNG > ENT >= VOY

>>68166505
>Final Frontier
One great thing about that one is it did have top-tier banter scenes between Kirk, Spock, Bones, and Scotty.

I thought Sybock was a pretty good character too, but he's wasted on that movie.

The writers and actors didn't really know what they were doing in the beginning. They had a whole bunch of plans and then some things changed in the first two seasons and going into season 3 that made them scrap a lot of them and build up characters differently and give more prominence to different characters. It was for the best because it gave the series some realistic shake-ups and it resulted in some really good characters, but the road to the stable good characters is rocky. Probably a little way into season 3 or the beginning of season 4 it's all good. You'll miss out on some important story beats if you skip around though-- TNG was still very much an anthology series, but sometimes it had permanent character development.

TNG was the most interesting. Best captain, best vilains, likeable characters. Voyager and Enterprise are just useless. Deep Space 9 was a nice try but in the end, it didn't compare with TNG. And TOS is just a little too old to rewatch now.

It's okay to have unpopular tastes, Anon. You shouldn't feel ashamed for that.

that is patently untrue

ds9 had problems, but i just wish there were more well written expanded universe stories set in the star trek universe, that extended the narrative and mythos and without regressing everything to always 1 ship=1crew

also star trek on cw was a mistake exemplified by talentless boob goblins being made central characters and wrestling star cameos to boost ratings
>>
>>68164406
The Original series.

James T. Kirk either got into a fight, got some pussy, or got drunk in damn near every episode.

The later versions were nothing more than SJW faggotry.

BTW it was still UPN back then, just FYI.

>sometimes it had permanent character development
Emphasis on "sometimes." Tasha got eaten by the Middle East personified, #1 grew a beard and Wesley got sent off to the Academy so he can be a little shit offscreen. Barclay goes through some major changes but you never see him, I'm pretty sure he actually appears in more VOY episodes than TNG. Everyone else is pretty close to static.

Data hardly changes, Worf is a father for all of half a season and the only difference in Geordi throughout the entire show is that we gradually learn how bad he is with women. We find out that Guinan is hundreds of years old, can see through timelines and that even Q has reason to fear her, but that's apparently not important enough to talk about in later episodes. Hell, even Picard getting assimilated and being forced to watch the Borg tear through Starfleet like it was paper is mentioned in the next episode and then promptly forgotten.
>>
>>68164599
Based. All these TNGbabbies don't know true television. TNG is still good though, but not compared to TOS
