Even the Criterion Collection edition has the same running time. Why? Why not the absurdly long cut?
The super long version is probably poorly edited and paced. And different characterizations would come out. Maybe Adrien Brody would end up as the main character. There'd still probably be much to enjoy but I don't think it would be particularly good.
