Why did Rodriguez try to toss Blackthorne off the ship during the storm?
>>
>>68151905
Damn that movie! It turned me into a weeaboo obsessed with everything Japan and anime otaku when I was still an impressionable child.
It ruined my life.
Fuck the Japs, fuck Japan and their ass backwards culture full of inbred, two-faced fuckfaces and fuck Richard Chamberlain!

One of the greatest miniseries ever made.
The book is great too

It was a pretty big deal back then right? For being the first real Asian location set or whatever?
And is it better in 10 episodes, or the combined eps like in the blurays?
>>
Toranaga is one of the best asian characther of all the time.
His monologue in the last page of the book is a masterpiece.
>>
>>68154379
Yes it was. This and Roots a few years earlier. literally everyone you knew watched and talked about it the next day. Kids and adults. My friends and I were fascinated with how damn cruel the Japanese were to the captured sailors.

Oh my god when they pee on Blacktorne, that had me fuming. If I had a week to marinate on that I can't imagine how worked up I would have been. Still it would have made it all the better as the story progressed.

Really great miniseries, one of the few shows unafraid to actually have a foreign character who can't understand the native language and not have subtitles to hand hold the audience. You really feel as lost as Blackthorne due to this, even more so the triumph as he begins to make his way through Japanese society.

>She had bought an assortment of the pillow devices that Kiku had shown them, and much later, when Yoshinaka had left and Chimmoko was guarding on the veranda, she offered them to him with a deep bow. Half in jest. he accepted with equal formality, and together they selected a pleasure ring.

>"That looks very prickly, Anjin-san, neh? Are you sure you don't mind?"

>"No, not if you don't, but stop laughing or you'll ruin everything. Put out the candles."

>"Oh no, please, I want to watch."

>"For the love of God, stop laughing, Mariko!"

>"But you're laughing too."

I really wished they had made The Count of Monte Cristo as a mini series with a young Richard Chamberlain instead of that shitty, barely 2 hour flick.

What
You do know that slavery actually happened for real right?
>>
>>68156628
>slavery actually happened
yeah just like to holohoax
>>
>>68156716
That's literally the worst bait I've ever seen written since slavery has been an integral part of civilization since people figured out violence is an excellent form of coercion. What's it like pretending to be retarded for free? I mean it's amazing you'd really put so much effort into it, your family must be so proud or dead, who fucking knows, whatever made you was a goddamn trainwreck of a human.
>>
>>68156628
It doesn't mean the show wasn't propaganda bullshit, the same kind of bullshit pounded into white kids heads form birth that is now literaly destroying western civilization
>>
>>68154379
It was the first American production filmed entirely in Japan, that's the big claim to fame. Other than that, it was in the golden era of mini-series and one of the better ones, only beaten by Roots and Winds of War in my opinion.
>>
>>68159243
I've got to check out Winds of War.

That is a pretty interesting claim to have though. Probably the greatest exposure to old Japanese culture on television to this day
>>
>>68153639
I watched this in middle school and it was the movie version. The teacher tried to cover up the nude parts with paper but I caught a brief glimpse of breasts on film for the first time (I was very sheltered). Was gr8.
