I'm looking for a comfy TV show to play in the background while I work on some CAD (computer aided design)
I guess my ideal requirements are:
>must be tons of episodes
>mustnt be reliant on complex plot strands
>must be comfy
Got any ideas?
Dr. Katz
Stargate SG1 comes to mind. X-files maybe?

I can vouch for Stargate SG1 as well, going through it for the first time now actually. Up to season 8 currently.
It's a pretty comfy show.
I hope the spinoff "Atlantis" is just as good, I know literally nothing about it.
Stargaze SG1
Farscape
BSG
Star Trek
If you're into sci-fi
Law and Order

TNG
The prime directive is exact and like autocad saleable and over micromanaged.
Mystery Science Theater 3000
>197 x 90 minute episodes / movies
>No plot
>Very comfy
I was watching Downton Abbey but I dropped it at the end of season 3 when they killed off Matthew, it just got too retarded and melodramatic for me.
TNG is a god tier choice for comfy background, also consider friend simulators such as Top Gear, Game Center CX, Mystery Science Theater 3000, or RedLetterMedia videos.
Finally I'd like to recommend one show just on account of it being little-known and underrated, the Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries. It's an Australian show set in the roaring 20s about a saucy dame who solves crimes. Excellent period visuals and costumes.

Glad you're liking it. The only downside I can give it is that sometimes they get really loud obnoxious comedians which ruin the comfyness. However it immediately makes up for it for the rest of the show, which is consistently great for the whole series. The banter between Dr Katz and his son is always great.
