Here's one of my own pet theories. I think all the Pa Kent scenes in MoS are structured to not only provide insight into the issues Clark is currently struggling with in the plot, but are also meant to elicit the emotional responses children have to parents as they age. Youngest = warm, loving protector, older = same + doubt over them being perfect, late teens = parents are idiots and I'm the smartest person alive, early adulthood = oh, I think I see what they were talking about.

Mate I was in a similar position to you. Heard how "shit" MoS was but gave it a chance with zero expectations. Loved it and Was immediately enthusiastic about BvS. The only capeshit movie I'd looked forward to and was more than happy with the result.
