You have been given an unlimited budget by studio execs to remake any film of your choice, but your casting choice *must* be totally unorthodox, unexpected, and different from the original.

Others will judge you based on either the originality or the weirdness of your choices. Blow our socks off, fellow cinephiles!

Example:

I would remake Lord of the Rings with Judd Apatow as director, starring James Franco as Frodo, Seth Rogan as Sam, and Jay Baruchel as Gollum. Gandalf would be played by Gilbert Gotfried. Sarah Silverman is a foul-mouthed Galadriel, and Aragorn is Channing Tantum. Sauron is voiced by Christopher Walken with a thick Bronx accent.

Crank, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

He's too old, and replacing an aging action star with another aging action star isn't very surprising.
>>
I'd remake your thread and it wouldn't be pig shit.
>>
>>68123355
That just sounds retarded, not unorthodox
>>
>>68123489
Are there any actual cinephiles in /tv/ or is it all just cancerous, shitposting teenyboppers? This place smells an awful lot like /b/.
>>
>>68123524
How would YOU stunt cast it, then?
>>
>>68123536
You really think this is the sort of thing that a "cinephile" would want to discuss?

Hard one, but I've actually put some thought into this. Everyone keeps trying to up the ante on "madness" for the Joker, but what they're missing is that he's supposed to be a dark, cracked mirror for Batman. He's the embodiment of the madness that Batman can't allow for himself. In Jungian psychology, the Shadow is not only the trickster Satan figure, but is also the negative image cast by the conscious mind, representing all the things we repress about ourselves.

In Batman's case, they've been making him more and more grim, more dark and gritty. His opposite needs to be bright and candy-coloured. I think the Joker should be genuinely funny, but with a mean, cruel, petty streak.

How's this for an unorthodox choice: Aziz Ansari.

Batman is huge, imposing, and grim. Aziz Ansari is tiny, petite, and metrosexual. And he can do shallow and self-absorbed very well. I see him as wearing a perfectly tailored, purple Brooks Brothers suit. He acts stupid and silly, but is an absolutely cold, emotionless sociopath inside. You only get tiny glimpses of it through expressionless shark eyes even while he's giggling and making stupid remarks... and palming a surgical scalpel.

You really think Sandra Bullock has the acting chops? I'd rather see someone like Judi Dench, someone with some classical training. And I don't think Scarlett Johannson has the right physicality for Rusty Ryan. I'm thinking someone like Cindy Landolt.

I'm 48, so I've always had a soft spot for Neal Adams' Batman. I think Frank Miller has ruined Batman. His vision was fine for a one-off, but now everyone accept his hulking, violent, borderline psychotic, and humourless version as the definitive Batman. The Neal Adams Batman was all about mood. He had a 30 foot long cape which billowed behind him, and was always lurking on rooftops in the rain, surrounded by gargoyles. His fighting style was all stealth and acrobatics -- a ninja rather than an MMA powerhouse. It has to be someone slim, svelte, and capable of moody, mysterious silence rather than rage and sturm und drang. Goth Batman, in other words. I think either Christopher Mintz-Plasse or Daniel Radcliffe would make a good Neal Adams Batman.

Better cast
Batman - Ling Chan
Superman - Xuy Xilyx
Wonder Woman - Lin Xin Pin

Recast Weekend at Bernies.
Everyone stays, but we use a real dead body. It just didn't feel authentic last time.

Blue Is the Warmest Color remake, starring Nick Jonas and Taron Egerton.

Actually, he might make an interesting Joker.
>>
>>68124655
Fuck off, he's Batman.
>>
>>68124538
Good idea, but I'm not sure either one can play "artsy" well enough. Maybe Zac Efron?
>>
>>68124501
You know, that's actually an interesting idea. Remake Weekend at Bernie's as a horror/thriller. Not even tongue-in-cheek. Straight-up horror. And not splattery torture porn either; creeping dread and a corpse which seems to move around when no one is looking. They never see Bernie move themselves, but they're pretending he's still alive and everyone else seems to believe it to the extent they've talked to him on the phone or received a text from him just a few minutes ago. Is he really undead, or is someone in the group playing a nefarious game of their own?
