Check out the scene... its right after the intro where they rob the club, and go to that fly pad. They turn on the TV and its a scene from Gummo with one of the kids pointing a gun at another calling him a pussy etc. That's the connection, that these guys are just boys running around pointing guns feeling tough acting out their childhood shit. One of the characters grows up as the movie progresses.
The contrast that the Gummo kids are white trash and on top of that the kind of movie it is, its not something you'd expect these hoodrats to have on.
