I'm working on a script about a guy who goes to bed and he wakes up and it's 700 years into the future. He's in some sort of military base and soldiers are getting ready to fight some alien species on the other side of the galaxy, he doesn't understand what the fuck is going on and can't stop thinking about his family

Rainbows End has a kind of similar futureshock plot. Guy with Alzheimer's is cured by medical advancements and realizes he's in a future with augmented reality and pervasive internet. The technologies are described plausibly and in depth. Might be useful for you to read it.

>The Butterfly Effect
You need to specify to watch the DC. The end of the theatrical version basically negates the entire premise of the movie, while the original ending really makes it hit home.

>The futurological congress
Based Lem sets the bar for mind-fuck woke-up-in-the-future stories. Also the drift in language is a big part of the "plot" so to speak.

>>68117382
There's already a flick based on that story
>>
>>68117262
The happy ending is the ones the studio made them put in for the theatrical ending.

The original is when he realizes the more he changes things, the worse he fucks them up, and realizes the only way to fix things is to remove himself from the picture. He time skips back to when his mother was pregnant with him, and strangles himself in the womb with his umbilical cord. This gives weight to the scene where his mother mentions she had several miscarriages before they had Ashton, implying that each one of his *siblings* had the power and ultimately resolved it in the same way. His dad is in the nut house because he realizes its all his fault and its happening again.
>>
>>68117533
Absolutely nothing like the book. I mean I like it, it takes the premise and goes in a different direction, but the book is absolutely incredible. Based Lem makes me want to learn polish just to read him in the original language.

Sci fi behind the iron curtain has a very odd feel to it. They had a lot more latitude to discuss certain topics because you could frame it in an a-political kind of way.

I mean Solaris is one big meditation on the alienation and isolation of the individual. It elevates itself above simple genre trash because it has something to say. At the same time Lem is also fucking hilarious, Ijon Tichy is the soviet arthur dent, and the cyberiad is just so fucking bizarro and absurd you can't help but chuckle.
