Just watched it.
Without any doubt, a masterpiece.

Ahead of it's time too, doesn't feel like a 90s movie.

I can see this movie inspired a lot.

Barring a few scene Heat is actually very boring. Also, it's too long for what it is. You could cut a good 30 minutes from the film and lose very little.

I swear I once watched a director's cut that had like an additional 15 minutes of footage that was only relationship stuff. Like extra stuff with Neil and Colleen, stuff with the black dude from 24, stuff with some couple at a restaurant. It was terrible. But, apparently I imagined the whole thing because according to the internet, there is no such thing as a director's cut.

Anyway, it's without a doubt too long, but I still find most of the scenes entertaining. I think I probably would have cut out the entire story with Ashley Judd. We already have two stories about the main characters dealing with home life, we didn't need another. But, Val Kilmer probably wouldn't have signed on for such a supporting role.
>>
>>68110882
Anon are you samefagging?

Sorry, let's have an actual discussion if you are still around.

Which parts should be cut out?

I thought the movie was great in lenght.

I loved the boring scenes, it was melancholic and beautiful.

They gave the Noir feel to the movie.

All the scene in the characters relationsships, the silent scenes, loved it.And the action was WOW

sondtrack is 10/10 edited into the movie.
>>
>>68111119
I thought Val Kilmer's scenes were important to make me actually get emotional and invested when he drives to pick her up at the end.

It really hit me in the feels when I saw Val's face after she gave him the hand sign to fuck off.

Also based Val, I wish he was still as based as in this movie.

Why did he get JUST?

Heat's action scenes seems to be a huge inspiration to Nolan's Batman movies.

But they are good compared to Nolan's action.

I'm 68111119, I didn't write any of the other posts. I disagreed with the guy's post.

Do you go around to threads to guess who is samefagging? I know autistic people can sometimes have trouble spotting small nuances in comparing things, but come on...
>>
>>68111119
It's really just there to cement the theme of obsession that the film has going on. Val Kilmer's gambling problems, Ashley Judd keeps going back with someone that she can't live without even though he isn't nice to her. It's the same reason Neil goes back to kill Waingro.
>>
>>68111382
It's alright. I don't want to shitpost with you anon, seriously.

Now answer my question.

Why was it boring and which part should be cut out.

I still don't know why the fuck he went back to kill that faggot and ruin his own life????

>>
>>68111485
It just felt unnecessary to me, especially her affair with Hank Azaria. That's like tv show stuff, it's way too ancillary to the plot of one heist movie. It's like the whole plot with Ashley Judd was to set up the scene at the end where she warns him. It's a good scene, but I would trade it for not having that whole subplot.
>>
>>68110819
Why the fuck does the black guy drive so slow? What the fuck was he thinking?

Don't mind watching any more of it because the shootout scene is the only good one.

The club scene from Collateral and the shootout from Miami Vice finale from Mann as well.

What kind of juvenile logic is that? I agree with the guy, Heat is an incredibly bland movie.

Ronin was great.

I felt the ending act wasn't that good though. But still great action and shit.

Plus you'll understand when people ask, "What's the color of the boathouse at Hereford?"

It's great and is comfy as fuck.
>>
>>68116643
Ronin is awesome. Great cast, great car chases, cool locations. Kind of one of those movies they don't really make anymore. It's kind of an action movie, but in a pretty subdued way.

>>
>>68116966
There's a spooky deleted scene that was the original ending. I'm not sure if it would change your opinion on it. I thought the ending was fine, not great, not bad.
>>
I've never understood /tv/'s boner for Heat, I've seen it maybe two or three times since the 90s through TV reruns and it's forgettable as fuck. The plot is as by-the-numbers, the set designs are just sterile, and De Niro clearly phones it in. My only explanation is that it's an acceptable Babby's First Crime Thriller.

Based Mann. If nothing else he makes incredible looking movies with stellar performances.
>>
this movie deserves a "Final Cut" the same way Blade Runner did

first thing, take out the female characters. the attempt to appeal to female viewers with tacked on romantic subplots dilutes the film's strengths.

the movie should be edited down to a brutal, streamlined, visceral crime/action film.

as it is, it's a flawed film that has moments of greatness.
>>
>>68110819
A masterpiece from one of the greatest living auteurs. The smallest of characters have arcs more meaningful than 95% of those in all other films.

I felt the length was justified, similar to Braveheart.

Every scene in this movie built to the climax at the airport, even the Natalie Portman suicide shit. There are long movies I don't like because they're long and I felt they should be cut down a bit in editing but HEAT isn't one of them.

I thought it was done well and everything between the action scenes, typically the boring stuff, was top tier acting and extremely engaging.

>Pull a criminal over on the highway
>Lets go get a cup of coffee

That shit is genius. Fuck you if you disagree.

/tv/ has a boner for all of Mann's work in general but, of course, that is completely understandable.
