>just finished my second run through The Sopranos

Holy shit what a rush

Will there ever be any other shows like it
>>
Breaking Bad
>>
>>68108721
Breaking Bad is nothing like The Sopranos. The Sopranos is a slice of life drama where the themes of the show are what bind episodes together. Breaking Bad is a character driven drama with very little substance outside Walter White and some villains.

>>68108721
there really is no other show like The Sopranos. It turned out to be nothing like I'd initially thought it'd be like. It's kinda fucking surreal. I kind of don't know how to explain it to people that think it's just some mafia drama show.
>>
>>68108678
Daredevil

Kingpin is exactly Tony Soprano
>>
>>68108721
Pretty much this. It does everything Sopranos does well and improves upon it.
>>
Favourite Sopranos episode?
>>
Closest thing to The Sopranos were other HBO dramas, specifically Oz and Six Feet Under.

Besides the first season (maybe the second) of Six Feet Under, there is no main overarching story. The overarching story was originally the rival funereal home Kroger and how they'd put the Fishers out of business, but that was axed pretty quickly. Unlike the Sopranos, Six Feet Under revolves around mortality and living itself over morality and how modern Americans function.

Oz is distilled human agony and hate, male on male rape was never so fun.
>>
>>68108932
What was the main takeaway from Breaking Bad? The bald asshole needed cancer to become a bald asshole?

The Sopranos offers different commentary on modern American life in every episode plus other themes and shit. I get TV is easy to watch, but its funny how many niggers can't even watch a TV show correctly.
>>
>>68108678
All of HBO's shows around the turn of the century were gold. Any of them should and could be watched.
>>
The Sopranos isn't only the best drama ever made, it's the best comedy ever made. The dialogue is so fucking funny.
>>
>>68108721
>>68108932

You're either trolling or haven't watched The Sopranos.

or you're a supreme fucking moron.

Sort of Boardwalk Empire though I've only seen the first two seasons.
>>
The only person I really couldn't stand on the Sopranos was Carmella, and that was after Season 2 maybe, when she did nothing but bitch at Tony for him to sign the living will and trust, etc.

The fucking cunt lives a lifestyle more self-indulgent than 99% of people who've ever lived, and still she bitches about money.

>>68109333
Nice trips, but no, BE sucked. Buscemi should be nothing more than a secondary character in anything.
>>
Mad Men is really similar in format, but has almost no humor and violence that The Sopranos has. Not having violence makes sense, but Mad Men lacks humor completely.
>>
Yeah it's good, why weren't you raving about it 15 years ago though? Oh, right.
>>
>>68109531
Surely you can't be serious. Mad Men is brimming with subdued hilarity. Also overt humor- Roger Sterling alone is always spouting funny lines with impeccable timing.
>>
>>68109531
Did we watch the same show? Mad Men had tons of humor.
>>
>>68108678
Sadly not, the sopranos was fucking great. Finished my second run not so long ago aswell.
>>
>>68109739
I'll agree with the humor being subdued or amounting to being a subtle layer of the show.
>>
>second run
>he doesn't know every episode by heart yet

Oh just wait. You'll try watching another show, one that your friends have been raving about, but it will turn out to be shit. Then you'll try another one, this one too is shit.

Then you think, maybe I'll just watch Season 3 of the Sopranos again. and from there you just decide to finish the series again, because hey, what the hell? You already started it.

At this point no other show will be able to hold your attention for more than a few minutes, save the pilots of whatever the new FOTM show is, until it too inevitably turns to shit.

Is it just, or did Roger become gratingly unfunny and a boring asshole by the end of the show
>>
>>68110501
>>68110365
The writing in Hannibal is anime tier, it actually reminded me of Death Note. I think the only way to enjoy it is to focus on the visuals which are god tier.
>>
>>68110780
Roger was always a spoiled asshole. He was born into money and literally did nothing most of the time.

Watching Sopranos the (k+1)th time is always better than watching it the kth time.
>>
I love The Sopranos and I only prefer The Wire over it for arbitrary reasons

I think The Wire is an intense examination of a modern American city and that just makes it so unlike anything else ever made on television that I can't put anything above it in good faith. But The Sopranos is just as good and there's really no reason it shouldn't be considered on the same level or even better

There are 4 fantastic shows that are simply on a different level from anything else ever made: The Sopranos, The Wire, Deadwood and mad Men

No, there won't. And I couldn't watch the entire series a second time, I got to season 3 or 4 before there were too many feels, especially when Chris and Tony would interact.
>>

>Then you think, maybe I'll just watch Season 3 of the Sopranos again. and from there you just decide to finish the series again, because hey, what the hell? You already started it.
I've done this so many times
I'll get bored and think "hey I think I'll put on Funhouse or Knight in White Satin Armor and chill out" then I finish that episode, start up the next and pretty soon I've completed two seasons in one weekend.

But Season 4 is pretty bad so far...

If you liked the Mafia part the Wire, if you liked the exploration of the minds of the protagonist, their social lives and their progression in a span of 10 years, Mad Men.

Don has another meltdown and after that he comes out with a great ad idea for coke saving his career.

Honestly season 4 is the best season of the show, other than 6B.

I feel like it could have been shown better, I mean Mad Men was definitely a slow amorphous drama, but it could have ended with a bit more of a kick

Nobody will believe me, but the Fargo TV series is the best thing on television since The Sopranos. Specifically season two, there is A LOT of depth. I know it's surprising, but just please listen
>>
>>68113819
I dont understand why people needed finalty, one of the best quotes was "Happiness is the moment before you want more happiness" and it fits the show perfectly. The cycle begins anew, don probably cheats again, makes more ideas etc. He loses that happiness in the finale and looks for more.
>>
>>68113819
I like to think Don won't be repeating the same cycle, that he came to a place of self-acceptance and won't need "the mask" so much going forward. He kept shedding the vestiges of "Don Draper" over the season (apartment, giving away car, etc). Confessing to those vets, showing Sally the house, those indicate he'll grow into more real human connection going forward
>>
>>68113903
I second this, Fargo is phenomenal. Top tier TV
