8/10, probably the only one on here that is actually a legitimate movie i watched, same 2 stars and director from "hot fuzz," great comedic value and definitely has multiple watches in it, good hangout movie
>cheech and chong
5/10, i'd probably rate it lower if i wasn't stoned out of my gourd when i watched it, but even then the whole movie was retarded as fuck, the simply fact it's completely indegestible while not being under the influence is an obvious red flag that it was only made for soup-brained potheads

as you can tell i got really fucking high a while back and marathoned all these garbo movies

Last Samurai - 7/10. Good movie, doesn't feel historically sound.

TFA - 7/10. Cheeseball aspects become more apparent with more views, but great the first time and still Star Wars.

Monty Python's Meaning of Life - English/10.

SLC Punk - 6/10. First half is pretty good, the second half where they shove some half-ass sentiment down your throat is lacking and forced.

Fellowship of the Ring - 6/10. 3 hours and 48 minutes long with poor pacing and subpar adapation from the book. Lengthy fights could have been reduced to fill out the plot more. Still my favorite LOTR entry.

One has a plot that is carried to completion. The other is a series of fragments that a director has arbitrarily decided are important in a rehashed/non-existent storyline.

Inb4 muh new hope same storyline but people liked that one, so they should like tfa

A new hope gets credit for doing it first (among Star Wars movies) and its amazing special effects for its time. On top of all that, even the subtler parts of tfa are also just rehashes of a new hope: recycled characters (ACTORS), memes that reference the old movies. It's a shit movie. And the acting is worse too.
>>
>>68116700
>And the acting is worse too.
I don't have the energy to address your other points, but how can someone seriously believe this? TFA objectively has better acting than every other Star Wars film.

>>
>>68117171
Your movie a shit.
>>
>>68116700
TFA is made with the knowledge that the next two films are coming. Critiquing it for not completing its story is akin to critiquing The Fellowship of the Ring for similar reasons.
>>
>>68117171
Orly??

Funny and hilarious Harrison ford versus old and simply bitter Harrison ford. I'll be the first to admit that I don't think the script did the actors many favors, but it's not like any significant character was putting a better show than ford in tfa. Meanwhile OT ford completely upstages tfa ford.

Also, go fuck yourself you fucking idiot. You're first move is to just call someone a contrarian faggot but you can't provide shit to support your own opinion. You're the shit of this board and probably blow in real life too.
>>
>>68117602
This isn't even a controversial point. Even Harrison gave a subtler, more tragic performance than he gave in the OT. Adam Driver was infinitely more varied than Hayden's surface-level shit. Like even the people who hate the movie concede this. Of all the things to criticize about TFA, this makes the least amount of sense.
>>
>>68117767
>Harrison gave a subtler, more tragic performance than he gave in the OT
whatever you need to sleep at night. Ford is uninspired in tfa. It's mostly menacing glares and the occasional hamfisted tender moment.
>even people who hate the movie concede this
One of the differences between us seems to be that I don't get my opinions from the Internet. I don't really give shit what other people who hated tfa think. And your use of this as some kind of excuse shows a clear lack of maturity.
>>
harrison ford hasnt given a good performance since the last jack ryan movie
>>
>>68117520
The fellowship of the ring started a new story. Tfa is a rehash.
>>
>>68118429
That's irrelevant to the point I made
>>
>>68118498
One is captivating because it's new material. Rehashing a movie from another universe is one thing, but rehashing your own fuckig movie with some of the same characters +40 years in age is just deplorable. Unless, of course, your blowing the last one out of the water (which did not happen).
>>
>>68118210
You're typing on your phone, aren't you?

Me bringing up the praise the acting in TFA has gotten isn't an appeal to authority, it's demonstrating that you're incapable of separating how you feel about the film as a whole from individual elements that make up that film. You're incapable of seeing shades; things are either wholly bad or wholly good.

And no, Ford gave the only good performance he's given in a decade. He was an older, more mature Han Solo while still keeping that character's droll demeanor. He was absolutely perfect in the film.
>>
>>68118693
Episode I is as much a copy as ANH as Episode VII is. One can make the argument that the cyclical nature of the Skywalker story is an inherent part of the series. And this brings us to discussions about how we define originality; both the original Star Wars and the Lord of the Rings base their stories, arcs, and tropes on ancient myth and folklore. And not to compare Lawrence Kasdan to the greatest writer of all time, but Shakespeare himself rarely wrote an original story; almost all of his stuff is based on earlier works.

>>
>>68118699
I am on my phone.

Han solo's first line: chewy, we're home.

Said without any conviction. Basically like asking what time it is.

"That thing can understand you too, so watch it!"
He's like a grandfather. And why do we need to be given "so watch it"? It's like there is no subtlety anywhere in this film. Everything laid out so completely plain and bare.
>>
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider - Guilty pleasure. I've watched this one so many times i've lost count. It's one of those movies that never gets old and I always find myself watching with a permanent grin stuck on my face. It's not actually that terrible and the cgi visual effects were good for the time.
Aloha - This was pretty bad. I avoided this for some time because of all the backlash. But ignoring all that stuff the movie is just a mess. I don't understand why people still hire Cameron Crowe to direct movies. Em is pretty cute in it though, so there's that.
Sicario - Very good. So good that I had to watch this again shortly after with my mom, who also thought it was spectacular. I don't know what to think about it getting a sequel though. Must there really be a sequel?
Spectre - Didn't really like it. First half was really weak. It picks up afterwards, but overall it's just not that entertaining. I hope this will be the last Craig bond film.
Colonia - Went into this expecting a simple interesting drama and was pretty blown away. It could have been better though without the unnecessary romance that they sprinkled into the movie but I guess that was a big a part of it. Emma Watson is really good in this, regardless.
>>
>>68118882
Shakespeare was also a master of wit. Don't forget that.

Back to Star Wars. Why does it have to be cyclic. You're saying Star Wars movies should be made ad infinitum? I think there are clear reasons to remake something. Either it can simply be made in a way that pertains to simple movie-making techniques, or it can be made with new technology allowing for better effects, or it can be made with a different focus. I don't see a reason to constantly redo that which has already been done.

>And why do we need to be given "so watch it"? It's like there is no subtlety anywhere in this film. Everything laid out so completely plain and bare.
That's Star Wars. "I have a bad feeling about this" is literally spoken in every film in the series. The dialogue has always been on-the-nose and cheesy. That's part of its charm.
>>
>>68115034
I think John dies.. is pretty good for what it wanted to be, but is not that good as movie. That's why i rated it 6/10
>>
>>68119149
Big short too low, and matrix sequels way too high.
>>
>>68120366
I have a bad feeling about this was a standalone line. The line I'm shitting on would be more like: "look at all the bad shit happening over there. I have a bad feeling about this."
>>

Being John Malkovich - 6.5
Two Days, One Night - 8
West Side Story - 7.5

>>
>>68119968
The cyclical nature of the story doesn't necessarily mean that new directors can't come in and innovate. One can include elements from other Star Wars films while still creating new characters, settings, and dealing with distinct themes.
