"Ant-Man" is a retelling of the story of Hercules rescuing Prometheus.

Hank Pym is Prometheus, one of the great figures of his time privy to the secrets of the gods. He uses his unique power, the Pym Particle, for the good of mankind, but his version of the godly pantheon, SHIELD, forces him into exile after they insist that the power must belong to them and only them. While Prometheus was tortured literally, Hank's exile tortured him mentally with the estrangement from his daughter and his removal from science, the godly power of the Marvel Universe. Zeus took the place of the Titans just as Darren Cross replaced Hank. And while Cross and Zeus are happy to let Prometheus and Hank languish, they both are willing to let their prisoners free on the condition that they reveal their secrets, Zeus wanting Prometheus' hidden prophesies, Cross wanting the Ant-Man technology.

Enter Lang and Hercules. Both criminals trying to make good, who have done crimes with mitigating factors that still let us see them as heroes. Hercules frees Prometheus and spites Zeus with his superhuman might while Scott rescues Hank from Cross with the Ant-Man power.
