Pleb here.

Memeshit aside, can any AVfag tell my why VLC is bad?

Recommend any players other than VLC for film/TV?

Just use MPC-HC like a normal person.

Bad for watching anime, good for watching movies.

I use windows media, works fine

Tries to be jack of all trades with it's compatibility, master of none. Severe lack of control over filters and just really a mess codec wise.

It's like comparing a prebuilt PC to a whitebox.
>>
VLC can't into color accuracy, debanding and good upscaling. If you watch anime it will fuck subs up as well.
MPC-HC and MadVR isn't hard to set up and will make a difference that you can actually see.
If you're on Mac or GNU/Linux you should use mpv and spend a bit of time reading the manual to get the same results as MadVR. mpv is also scriptable which offers some cool things for a better movie watching experience on Linux(mostly), like setting your display refresh rate to a multiple of the movie's framerate to eliminate jitter.

VLC is fine for you if you're the kind of guy that downloads YIFY rips.

And here I thought /tv/ was at least filled with competent well-adjusted people who love shitposting

or

I wonder what I should choose

Can some VLCfag take a picture of their player showing the ui and all.

I haven't seen VLC in 5 years, I have no idea what it looks like anymore.
>>
>>68097860
Is downloading and installing it yourself such a hassle? What about searching for some images in Google?

Copy/pasting sure is hard.

Are you retarded?

Do whatever you like but don't pretend to be anything else but a pleb if you keep using video LAN player.

I can't seem to remember having any issues with VLC

Been using VLC for almost a decade.

I don't understand how people say it fucks up subs.
It does what you want it to do, play videos files, even dvd ISOs (practical for those japanese porn dvds)

>Takes next to no time for it to lunch after double click
>Handles multiples sub sources and languages
>switching between them mid-play causes no lag and is almost immediate (at worst, half a second for subs to switch from English to English commentary)

There is nothing wrong with it.
>>
>>68099104
Well, if you've been using it for 10 years then I have to call bad taste, because VLC was terrible 10 years ago, legitimately awful.

It is much better now than it was then. But the thing is, it isn't so much that VLC is irredeemably bad, it's just that MPC is better, so why not use the better option when you can?
>>
>>68099104
>There is nothing wrong with it.
This.

I think haters base their "facts" on what they've read from other haters
>>
>>68099238
My grass is greener on my side of the fence.

Nice arguments to convince me btw.
>>
>>68099309
>you have to customize it in order for it to play videos. obviously it's better!

yep, their argument too
>>
>>68099382
>customize it

yeah

>place madVR folder on computer run .exe
>open MPC settings change output to madVR

such a complicated and headache inducing process.
>>
I'm a poor college fag and I just use default players of whatever operating system I'm using right now.

When I graduate and get a job I can hopefully buy a new nice tv, along with a blu ray player. I do already have a ps3 but it's an old one and the fan is so fucking loud it pisses me off.

Tl;Dr if I wanted quality I'd get a 4k tv and a blu ray player

Now I remember why I'll never use that piece of shit again.
>>

>having to wait less than a minute is such a hard task
>>
>>68097850
To be fair, a normal install of MPC-HC without MadVR and changing anything still looks better than VLC.
>>
>>68099682
Do you have any screenshots which supports your claim?
>>
>>68099719
Not really, at least I don't have anything right now. I've tested it with some Sopranos episodes like a year ago with whatever the newest versions of VLC and MPC-HC where back then, and the MPC-HC one looked better. VLC is good for streaming, tho.
>>
>>68099681
Don't make me record how long is actually takes.
>>
>>68099681
But if your argument is that having to wait not being a problem, why are you so against taking 5 minutes of your time to setup MPC with madVR? You'll do that once and then it's done forever.
>>
>>68098688
i forgot yify was dead...damn...
>>
>>68099973
waiting ≠ having to do something
>>
>>68097445

potplayer x64 + lav filter + madvr
>>
>>68100126
You've never taken a little extra time out of your day to cook a meal that tastes better than the average one you eat?

You do a process that takes less than 10 minutes and it's a one time thing, then for the rest of time your movies look better.
>>
>>68100392
I'll try it out someday.
>>
I use GOMPlayer, it's the best free, out-of-the-box software there is

the main problems were shitty subtitle handling

but those problems were corrected ages ago, and at this point its basically an internet contrarian meme

VLC has always been terrible for anime, which is why 4chan...a Bangladesh Arcade Box image board, hates it.

It has a good UI and decent features if your a pirate like dealing with an off-sync audio track. mpc-hc is generally better for most things though. Especially if you stream sports games. I don't give a fuck, personally. Use fucking iTunes for all I care. Beyond that it's mostly trolling and/or /g/ faggots actually getting upset over a program. Fucking stupid shit.
