Why do we keep comparing BvS to the Avengers and other late-stage MCU films in terms of box office revenue?

BvS has made more money than most if not all of the pre-avengers MCU films. Sure you can talk about which characters are more well known etc but it doesn't really matter.

DC is just beginning their cinematic universe and already making more money than marvel did at the same stage

lets talk about profit then, BvS needs 900M to break even while all the Marvel movies made a profit and then some and lets not even talk about Fox and Deadpool which budget was 60M

WB lost big time

if you don't want to compare them

stop bringing it up

No matter what way you look at it BvS has underperformed. Marvel took B list characters and turned them into blockbuster movies. DC's 3 biggest heroes should be drawing bigger numbers. It's also not fair to say it's the same stage cause Marvel waited until they were 5 films into unite while DC have already combined half the JL in their second film. I'm pretty neutral in the Dc/Marvel "feud" but BvS has not done the business it should have at the box office

well Marvel played it safe and didnt challenge the viewer at all with those characters which is why everything apart from captain america 2 and ant man is bland and forgettable as fuck, Snyder for all his faults tried to explore the darker aspects of Bruce wayne and clark kent, (inb4 dont reinvent the wheel). as for my personal opinion I rather have someone bring a fresh aspect to these characters than watch a movie which ill forget as soon as I walk out of the theatre, that was not the case with BvS.

Inb4 Not muh supes. not muh murdering batman.

why do you care if they lost, are you competing against them from your basement making youtube videos for your shitty 3 subscribers? for all intents and purposes I won cause I got something fresh from characters 75 years old.

People defending movies so hard it's like they're being paid or something.

because these are the same shitposters that partake in console war discussions.

Only the two Avengers and Iron manlet 3 made more than BvS.

Because DCU likes to compare itself to MCU.

>>68096338
>marvel plays it safe
>kickstart a cinematic universe with a nearly blacklisted actor like rdj with a b level hero at the time
>use properties like fucking antman and guardians of the galaxy
>make literal no name actors like chris pratt hollywood gold
>play it safe
Nah, they didnt play it safe, they played the long game and they played it well

Respect where its deserved
>>
>>68095610
Because dc fanboys need to validate their comic book heroes and the only way to do that is to prove marvel drones wrong or something
>>
If anything Snyder didnt play it safe.

He banked on Supes and Batman being iconic. He assumed we knew the lore and filled in the blanks. He catered to the edgy teen demographic.

I want to punch Jesse Eisenberg in the face.

But the only purpose of people posting box office threads is to mock it.

Deadpool was a fox film

So yeah, let's forget deadpool because it has nothing to do with the "marvel universe" films

Except it didn't do well enough to warrant making more movies.

>>68095770
Pretty much. The problem is not DC's characters - they are iconic and, barring CaptainA merica, none at Marvel can compare to their age.

But when it comes to their movies, they clearly don't know they are doing.

>>68098852
Pretty much this.

Marvel played the long game. I think they are playing safe now, but Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and the Avengers, were all one big gamble. Which paid off.

youre right they played the long game very very well, and yes Iron Man was definitely a movie worthy of kicking a universe open, but what I hate about the marvel universe is that they conditioned the public to not want more out of those movies, just simple predictable plot that the audience eats up with a smile, while DC tries to do something radically different and the Marveldrones ( Im not a DC dude, just someone who is sad at how the sheep are stagnating the evolution of these movies) start insensitively hating (and flaming the flame of hate towards others ) it instead of simply disliking it, if you dont like it then fine more power to you but to go out of your way to stop others from liking it just shows the amount of pettiness that runs their lives. I like BvS and i hope more like it comes just cause its radically different that what Marvel is doing and variety is the spice of life.

>>68096903

if anything they have stated the opposite.

this just makes me sad, were not seeing a penny our of those numbers yet people post as if theyre getting a piece of the pie, bunch of sad retards man. ooh for the lels, yeah nah I got better things to do with my life then laugh at millionaires.

>> the marvel universe is that they conditioned the public to not want more out of those movies, just simple predictable plot that the audience eats up with a smile

I guess the question is - if you set up with a particular goal in mind, with a series of movies you definitely want to make, and you don't want to make any fucks ups, would you REALLY want to do something against the norm?

I think the reason why Marvel is predictable is because, they know the audience wants a series of movies with a payoff. That payoff is the Infinity War. They know that a bad movie can upset the balance. Look at how BvS is doing to show how taking a risk could do as much damage as it could be an unintended success. And even then, giving an audience what they want isn't a stupid idea - look at Deadpool. Yes, it is Fox doing something new, but they are also actually giving fans what they want - Deadpool as how he is in the comics.

In that way, Fox is giving fans what they want. And fans do want that leadup to Thanos,

Its why, imho, Marvel is getting it right. By catering to their fans, and taking minimal risks, they want to get that Thanos payoff
