http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-04-08/-batman-v-superman-seen-earning-less-profit-than-superman-alone

>“Batman v Superman,” one of the most expensive films ever made, is on pace to produce a $278 million profit for Warner Bros. once home video, TV and merchandise proceeds are tallied, according to SNL Kagan analyst Wade Holden. That’s less than the estimated $300 million the studio earned from “Man Of Steel.” It’s also evidence that Warner Bros. has more work to do to make its DC Comics division the unbreakable superhero movie business it needs.

When the media and critics take this much joy in any negative news about Batman v Superman, it's hard to believe they didn't review the movie without an enormous bias against it. They've been celebrating things like this non-stop since it was even announced that this movie was being made.

I don't gain pleasure from this. I genuinely feel sorry for DC for putting so much behind building a cinematic universe from the start instead of starting small and building on that. It's like Snyder made one movie that wasn't as terrible as the one that came before it and they give him full control over everything.

I mean, I can kind of appreciate the vision he want to bring to these movies as sort of a small self contained thing, but it's absolutely insane to think that they could build a entire franchise on them.

Are you Jewish dude? I've never even seen this movie and you seem really childish to me.
>>
People don't seem to get it. In a different situation, Snyder would have slowed this down and made this movie a contestant for the title of best superhero film ever made. WB got desperate and pushed him into shoving too much material in this movie. They're feeling the crunch and the missing piles of money from a booming craze right now that is comic book movies, and they've practically been completely out of the game with their frontrunners. They want their characters on the screen and making grabs at the ever flowing cash that every superhero movie is making atm (nearly every decent comic book movie is topping charts right now). There was too much pressure put on Snyder alone to kickstart this universe. Nolan has years and was in charge of 1 character, they've shoved everyone on Snyder's plate to reboot and reestablish and make successful in too short a time, a task nobody could get away with any better than he has.

This. It doesn't matter if it was good or bad. If it disappoints and under performs then it gets eaten alive by everyone.

Look at waterworld. An ok movie that's nothing special or offensive, but gets torn apart to this day cause it had an insane budget and the producers hyped it up since it was in concept.

They deserve the heat. Movies with this much pull, this much budget, and this much talent behind it, should not even be questioned to fail, let alone have it happen.

Personally, I wouldn't complain if we got another solo superman movie (maybe with bizarro or metallo) and an affleck solo movie (riddler? Real detective movie) before any justice league shit.

Maybe each of them makes a brief cameo in the others film but otherwise mostly solo films. Build up each character a bit more first.
>>
>>68082535
That's what's insane.

You want to kick start an entire cinematic universe about 6 superheroes where only one of them has been established (arguably 2 if the Nolan trilogy is a part of this but I don't think so), and you force the guy being lumped with that task to squeeze all the origin stuff and motivations, plus an actual plot and villains and action into a regular length film?

As much as I like that movie, it had some insanely stupid shit in it (jet ski bungee jump collision). By comparison there really isn't any one thing about BvS that deserves that much hate, regardless of how well it does at the box office.

The irony is that Superman and Batman have such an immense presence in popular culture that they really didn't *need* to do set-up movies. Just movies that ere good.

Everyone knows that one is invincible and strong while the other dresses like a bat and punches people in the night. Together, they fight crime.

On the other hand, the heroes that Marvel had weren't as well-known. They really did need to introduce the wider audience to characters like Iron Man and try to unfuck Hulk after the Ang Lee film failed.

DC could have jumped straight to a Justice League movie and no-one would have even batted an eyelid. All they had to do was make a good movie, but they seem set on being the "anti-Marvel" franchise and they're making choices that are different to a successful formula solely to differentiate themselves, and it's getting in the way of them making a good movie.
>>
>>68084527
I doubt it, the execs at WB are probably giving Terrio and Snyder daily humiliation rituals so they make it more normie-friendly.
>>
>>68084544
This is what I always thought. It didn't matter they were doing a reverse avengers. All that mattered was that it didn't suck.

They had like 3 years to make it and they still came out with what feels like an unfinished product.
>>

>a task nobody could get away with any better than he has.

>>
DC are just trying to kill CBMs for good. Their jealousy of Marvel's achievements and success means that they will stop at nothing for ruining the market for cape movies. Well played, DC.
>>
>>68084435
Dude, getting as many people as possible to see your movie, AND be entertained is the main point of film making. I can make the best 'kinography' ever and it would be shit if no one was entertained. Movies should take you on a journey, provide you with a story that makes you forget real life. The movie should have your whole attention. This is why great movies like T2 are still seen today, and are watched multiple times. Seeing a movie just once means you weren't as entertained and don't give a fuck.

>>68084560
For all the shit talking of Marvel directors having little say in their movies, Snyder gets fucked over by his bosses too. Ramming all that shit instead of focusing on 2-3 plotlines would have allowed him to at least tell a consistent story. I mean, I still rewatch Dark Knight Rises once a month, and I have only seen MoS once. Snyder's comicbook movies seem to be a chinese sweatshop knockoff of the DK trilogy, without substance or respect for the material.

At least marvel respects their characters and makes do with translating them to movies. I hope they don't fuck up Suicide Sqad, and considering they are re-shooting scenes, it's not looking good. They fucked up Superman, shoved in a bunch of characters unanounced, last thing they need is a fucked up Joker or Harley Quinn. I'll watch any comic book movie, but come on, son. They're already making some profit, the least they could do is have a presentable and enjoyable product.
>>
>>68084642
It would be easy as fuck. Everybody knows Superman and Batman, just show them in stand-alone movies with no origin shit. Leave origins in the form of flashbacks in the sequels, but mostly focus on the plan at hand. Look at Thor, or Hawkeye, or Black Widow. You just get snippets of their history and instead get to see them do their shit. And what the fuck is up with them killing? I would understand Razalghul or Lobo killing people, but your main guys known for NOT killing people straight up committing murder? Fuck, son. That would be like seeing James Bond not seducing and banging a chick, but him raping a bitch and tossing some cash on her as she lies crying.
>>
>>68084702
This. He has a fucking catalogue of comic books to base this shit on, just pic a good arc, form a coherent plan, break the comics into sections that would make decent individual movies, get someone to write good scripts and just film that shit. No need to complicate shit when you're working with characters like Batman and Superman.
>>
>>68084915
>For all the shit talking of Marvel directors having little say in their movies
I don't get why people always say this like its a bad thing. Marvel have a heirarchy that looks beyond just the one movie each director's dealing with. If you let every cunt just run amok with their movie you end up with a clusterfuck that can't work well together in your big team-up movie.
>>
>>68084435
By comparison? Bvs deserves the heat more, cause it's 2 of the biggest icons ever in one movie, struggling to keep people interested. At least waterworld had to build some things from nothing and try to keep scenes happening in the middle of open water interesting. Those are actual challenges presented by shooting it.

The challenge of bvs? There was none. Just make up a reason for batman and superman to punch each other in awesome ways. And they failed not only at that but every other bit of plot they attempted, in a movie that practically writes itself. They both deserve their lashings but bvs fucked up harder in comparison in almost every way. And honestly I'm fine with that.

If you ask me, every generation can use a waterworld type bomb to let everyone know that big names and big things don't always bring big results just from puffing out the chest. They can be used as examples on what not to do in big production and how not to generate interest, even though things like that should be mostly common sense.

After merchandise, home media, and foreign sales? That's not good enough. Compare that to Avengers 1. IIRC, Amazing SpiderMan 2 also made a profit but not as much as was expected. It doesn't bode well or inspire confidence in the DC universe movies.
>>
>>68085497
>That's not good enough.
Am I living on the same planet as the rest of you? hundreds of millions in profit.

Not good enough

1. Not good enough for what exactly?
2. Some movies made more, other movies made less. Why is this an issue? legit question, why does it matter?
>>
>>68085566
Yes. A multi billion dollar venture only making hundreds of millions is not that great especially when the thing being ventured into is at peak demand.
>>
>>68085566

>>

Are you retarded? The story says 278 million when they expected 300 million. That doesn't equal 100 million less in profits. The number you are looking for is 22.

People actually talking about Batman v Superman and Marvel v DC company wars like they are real things. I need to log off, this thread is going to give me a brain tumor.
>>

kek
>>
>>68085864
But they aren't off by 100 million, they are off by 22 million. And still in the black. What is the margin for error with these estimates anyway? Don't the exec's figure the number could be higher or lower within 'x' amount of millions when they sign off on the project?

I get that they wanted more but I guess I just don't get why 278 million in profit is a bad thing.

Why people think that because Superman and Batman are famous that this movie was going to be an easy success?

Before the MCU movies began the Hulk was the most well known Avenger character and a lot of people didn't liked The Incredible Hulk.

Wanna guess why? Nostalgia and headcanon.

People are attached to things they've seen before. They create idealizations. They get nitpicky.

People would always get mad about something or other relating to Superman and Batman.

The higher the expectation, the harder to please.
