I know two people like this. The one guy is an alcoholic and the other one's wife is bat shit crazy. They have fights that involve him having to leave the house because she chased him out of it with a knife. Yeah. Vern died in a house fire, Teddy in a car accident, and Chris by stabbing. The story goes on to detail how Ace became some fat piece of shit who never left town. I think he's even a character in Needful Things. Never read it, though.
Stand By Me might be the best adaptation of one of King's stories. It hits on everything that made the story great, elaborated on certain scenarios, and only altered points to improve the story for film. It just worked.
