It’s what happens when the standard Hollywood procedure is to lure viewers in with a good (or at least decent) first season, then coast the rest of the way thru the series on a predictable and homogenized story based on marketing data.
Most viewers won’t stop watching a tv show that goes to shit once they’ve started watching it, because at that point it they have made a commitment and want to see how it ends and it’s become little more then a habit and is more of a hassle to commit to a new tv show (which more than likely follows the same trajectory).
The History Channel could have easily afforded to do a better job but why bother? Viewers are still going to watch anyway...
