Another thing the show got wrong.
If the show gave us scenes like Stannis listening to Jon's advice about going to the Northern Mountain Clans and winning them over or attacking Deepwood Motte instead of Winterfell, I could see a working partnership between the 2.
But in the show, it seemed more like Stannis was this Southron interloper. In fact, in the TV series, Stannis' attack on Mance's army makes it look like butchery. It seemed as if Jon might have worked out a deal with the Wildlings until the R'hollor fanatic showed up. Totally different from the nick of time rescue in the books.
Meh, the show ruined a lot of characters. They turned Brienne into this killing machine when she's actually a young girl whose idealism of knighthood clashes with the harshness of reality. And absolutely nuking Jaime's path of redemption by going on that pointless mission to Dorne. He didn't even try to rescue Sansa despite being in the capital for several weeks. Book Jaime only arrived AFTER Joffrey's death and Sansa's escape.

And look at Jon's scene with Mance as well as Stannis' charge on the Wildlings. Mance seems reasonable in his talk while Stannis' attack sounds sinister on helpless Wildlings who only want to flee the Others and find safety behind the Wall.
