not really. I grew up when being a nerd was seen as a bad thing but I dont feel like some aspect of my personality has been stripped because more people are reading comics or the like. All that has happened is that popular examples of this medium are in the common vernacular, placing it on the same level as the rest of music, books, film etc. Real book nerds don't read the hunger games but they don't feel that their love of books is diminished because of people that do. Miley Cyrus topping the charts doesn't effect my enjoyment of generative composition. My local comic shop being filled with people buying those big head figures doesn't effect my reading miracleman, the Incal, Sandman etc.
People who get bent out of shape because it's now popular to have a passing interest in iron man or science were never enjoying those things, they were coveting them.

It used to be they would pick one thing and thrust it into the spotlight for a brief period, like skateboarding or punk music or fighting games or vampires, but once they had that down pat they moved on to bigger things and morphed a myriad of sub-cultures into a single monetised cultural movement, to be plundered and abused at will.
