You can see hallucinations but it usually happens in low light where your brain can't really make out what it is seeing, thus tries interpret things it's sort of making out into what it thinks it is.
I remember on shrooms looking at a flowering tree at night and when a flash light passed over it it looked like it was filled with parrots.
Googles Deep Dream stuff I think is VERY accurate to a heavy psychedelic experience and how it actually happens as well. For related, this image is almost identical to what I see when on DMT and looking at a landscape.

Only time I actually hallucinated was when I was on synthetic mescaline + spice. My friend turned into that fish guy from Ugly Americans and I got this weird picture-in-picture effect where, not only could I see everything normally, but a tinier version of everything I could see was rapidly moving from the top of my right-peripheral vision to the bottom, and then to the left. On salvia, the first hight I literally fell back on my matress, fell through it and the world was made of ever growing vines and a voice in the background, clear as day, said "this is the way".
It lasted about a minute and a half and felt like eternity. I havent done it again since.
I got high off benadryl twice, full dosage of 24 pills each time. There were very solid shadow people and shadow cats around me constantly on it, I smoked an empty bowl with a friend sitting next to me on my bed for about an house that wasnt actually there, even though we had a full conversation, several times I smoked weed (actually packed this time) to try and mellow out, and every time I looked at the bowl it exploded into spiderlike things. Spots on the ground or the walls grew spider legs and then freaked the fuck out like a tool video because they couldnt actually go anywhere.
I have NEVER touched benadryl as a high ever again.
And im open, even to this day, to try any other drug, but THOSE EXPERIENCES? Nah man, I did it, I experienced it, I still dont understand it.
