>Yesterday, a Hollywood Reporter story revealed that Warner Bros. doesn’t want to take risks on smaller projects in the wake of Batman v Superman‘s tumultuous box office and will make fewer movies, focusing on major tentpole releases. We may already be seeing the impact of this new policy: director Adam Wingard‘s adaptation of Death Note has been dropped by the studio. Thankfully, Netflix arrived to pick it up.
Get fucking hyped.

>get fucking hyped
>for an anime adaption
>for anything anime-related
>ever
>>67990119
>thankfully
WB was fucking smart to drop this. It would've bombed and sucked considering they got some nick actor to play some guy
Oh boy, that guy who made one ok movie is making a shitty Netflix Original Anime Adaptation.
Decently hype. Did anyone else not like Near? He was dull as fuck. I would much rather have Mello been the lead detective after L.
Leave Asia alone already, Adam. First the I Saw the Devil remake and now this.
It's confirmed: WB hates money (and their DC superheroes). The concept is good, the director is very good. This movie had potential but obviously it's better to greenlight upcoming flops like "Another Jungle Book adaptation?!"
>>67990247
Death Note's probably the most easy to adapt anime.
Its serious, doesn't have moeshit moments, and can be easily digested by a western audience.
>>67990247
Death Note is an actually good story that can be adapted to film without any bullshit anime is known for.
>>67990772
>Death Note is an actually good story
ayy lmao
Death Note is incredibly overrated.
Like the battle of wits shit is really good but then you have all this anime crap with idols and school and other weeaboo stuff nobody gives a shit about.
hahaha. being watched 24/7 is a nightmare. it's the worst.
>>67990119
We've got the anime. 37 episodes is not enough. Will the Netflix show at least half of all those twists and turns? Unnecessary remake.
>>67991247
>this fucking post
death note was too deep for you
you didn't name a single legimitaly problem of the show, and it had many.
>>67990608
>implying le "STALKER CHAN IS THAT YOU?" didnt happen
I dropped that shit right when she said it
Why do people keep pulling animes out of the garbage can?
Theyre there for a reason.
>>67991497
Misa is the only problem but even she could be useful. Most of the cast was annoyed with her too. Pretty funny how the show dropped her in the last arc. Then she had her best scene where she was drunk,
STALKER CHAN NANI?
>>67990119
>a Hollywood Reporter story revealed that Warner Bros. doesn’t want to take risks on smaller projects in the wake of Batman v Superman‘s tumultuous box office and will make fewer movies, focusing on major tentpole releases.
So they lost a lot of money on a tentpole movie... which means they're going to focus exclusively on tentpole movies so they don't lose anymore money? This doesn't make sense.
> Warner Bros. doesn’t want to take risks on smaller projects in the wake of Batman v Superman‘s tumultuous box office and will make fewer movies, focusing on major tentpole releases.
Isn't that like the exact opposite they should be doing since pretty much every big film WB have released this year has flopped?
Make more cheaper films, less risk.
>>67990608
>Death Note's probably the most easy to adapt anime.
Around 80% of Death Note is people sitting in a room and inner monologuing. Adaptation would probably exchange that for actionshit
>>67991638
WB is totally fucked up right now since they fired their big guys. One of them works for Disney now...
There's a hugh chance that they'll become the first big movie company to fuck it up completely and go bankrupt...despite having tons of good stuff.
>>67991638
"DUDE ITS BATMAN AND SUPERMAN, IT CANT BE WORTH LESS THAN JURRASIC PARK"
*proceeds to make the same mitakes 3 more times*
>>67991557
To be fair Death Note is one of those rare animes that can be adapted to IRL setting pretty easily without going full retard.
>>67991733
There are two chase scenes in DN. For 37 episodes about cops and killers that's not a lot. This makes them even more effective. They will probably just have more dialogue between the characters.
>>67990808
Go somewhere else, you're too negative.
It's not a good anime either should of passed
I bet they're going to cast some basic bitch as misa amane, and fuck 'em
pic related if she doesn't look like this I ain't interested
>>67991247
Every serialized story has filler content, from Walking Dead to Twin Peaks to Last Airbender to Lost to...
>>67991770
Its nothing without shimigami dressed like JRPG freak warriors.
>>67991733
So is Walking Dead, stupid, and it does fine.
>>67991840
> she
good one.
Could be good, it's a decent enough story which if adapted right I could totally see working as a decent suspense flick.
Cut the weeab shit, cut the monsters, cast it well, don't try and aim for the mass market pleb audience, and I'm in.
>>67991840
>4channers used to jerk off to sets of this
>>67991986

>>67990119
A THIRD adaptation? Why?
>>67992083
Try and make it not shit this time
>>67991452
No unnecessary was when they made mello a puppet that near talked to. That's why I dropped the last death note TV show
>>67992158
They will have to make a lot of change from the original to not make it shit. Remove Misa's character and the 2nd book plot. End at L's death.
Just do the story up until Ls death and cut out the "but le wait le L has thought of le everything"
>all these hipsters trying to downplay how fucking great Death Note is
name ONE more cerebral and gripping cat-and-mouse thriller, you hipsters
>>67992319

>>67992213
This .
>>67992216the arc after L's death has some good characters and moments including the finale
The worst was the Yotsuba subplot but even that ended in style.
>>67990247
I just love when someone laughs so wholeheartedly they have to cling onto somebody else
>>67992389
It's good but it's such a slowburner. The thing is the part I liked the most about it were the secondary characters that popped up once or twice (like the gardener) but the story in general was way too slow. I honestly preferred DN.
Original Death Note is decent until the amnesia part.
Then it slowly turns into complete shit (L's death being the final nail in the coffin).
If they keep the premise and ideas and do away with the retardation (the girlfriend) and make something new it could be good.
I have a hard-on for the "good guy protagonist turns into a ruthless villain" trope so I wish they succeed.
>>67992389
...ok i'll let that one slide
>>67992403
winrar
>>67992438
I just never understood why Mello targeted Takada. He put so much effort into that as if he knew something.
>that dramatic chip opening scene
what a ridiculous show
>killing Lind L. Taylor
>Killing Agent Penbar
>killing his fiancé
IF LIGHT HAD JUST BEEN SMART ENOUGH NOT TO DO THAT SHIT HE WOULD HAVE GOTTEN AWAY WITH IT REEEEE
Looking forward to this desu senpai
only way to make this work is to cut out a lot of shit from the comic and anime but keep the same themes and main storyline. I can't see a Ryuk being translated to live action successfully. Gonna have to make him more humanoid i guess.
To make this movie decent you're going to piss off a bunch of weaboos for being "not muh anime"
>>67990247
You're full of shit.
>>67992504
he was never a good guy though
The concept is nice. Aa the show progresses they say how crime has fallen so much, and people feared and loved Kira is equal measures, the show is basically an analogy for Godif he were ACTUALLY real+tip
>>67992319
Hannibal was pretty much death note though, homolust between the leads included
Shit yeah. I trust Adam enough to believe it will be a good movie. I love Death Note but I'll take a bad adaptation if it's a good movie.
Can't wait for shot of Light writing names furiously as it shows people dying that normies will praise like daredevils hallway fight.
>>67993101
he goes from an innocent high school student to "better kill fucking everybody" really fast but I did say it was only decent.

pretty much

>>67992666
killing the police was really retarded.
>>67993860
They'd have rework the story quite a bit, but it's probably possible. Cut out yotsuba, cut out mellow near, keep misa, have the same overall ending but make the trap set by L instead of N
How the fuck could Light resist putting down the occasional spergy actor or radical feminist?

I'm Canadian. Stop being so obsessed.
I dont know who is in charge of netflix but they are genius. If I were netflix I would even make it a series. Netflix has the number on how many people watch the anime they noticed that its ridicoulously popular brand even if it turns out to be a shitty adaptation. I can actually see the potential. WB probably thought it was going to be another Dragon Ball flop. IF you read the manga or anime you can realize that its structured with episodic highs and lows ideal for a series. We all know death note story and we know its a good story it mainly depends how is it handled. I dont think you need millions of dollars to make a good adaptation you just need passionate people
>>67994343

>Warner Bros doesn't want to take risks on smaller projects and will focus on major tentpole releases
So they wanna stop making smaller films in turn wanna throw more money at big movies?
That doesn't make any sense. Those big tentpole franchises is what got them there in the first place. Is Warner Bros retarded?
>since all these big films we make keep flopping, instead of making smaller films, we're gonna keep making big films
That doesn't make sense
>>67990119
Yeah, I sure can't wait for Hollywood to butcher a decent but incredibly overhyped anime.
The anime is really tiresome.
>something happens
>"Aha I planned for this by setting up half a dozen things I never mentioned nor gave any sign of. I am clever."
>L knows everything with almost no evidence, despite the crimes requiring ~literal magic~
>>67995616Literally me.
>>67995834
>almost no evidence
L bluffs as much as he collects and organizes actual evidence. L and Light's first encounter was 100% bluffing on L's part.
Anyway, it's not like the show doesn't mock itself constantly. The potato chips scene? Completely on purpose.
>>67992319
Steins;Gate was better in every way.
The first guy he kills in DN was a biker thug who told his real name to a girl he was molesting in the middle of a street.
Just how fucking retarded is that?
