The bad soundtrack ruined the movie
>>
My all time favrit Star Wars track is Jedi Steps :) its like totality not Harry Potter music despite what h8ers say
>>
The sound mixing was off. The score is actually great, but it was drowned out by everything else
>>
>>67976530
No, bad movie ruined the decent soundtrack.
>>
It wasn't bad, just incredibly boring.

Imperial March, Duel of the Fates, Across the Stars still give me chills.

I don't remember any of the music from TFA.
>>
Kylo Ren's motif is my favorite Star Wars theme since Vader's imperial march.

http://youtu.be/Q3YcCLaTnBE
This is great too
>>
>>67976530
was there even a soundtrack ? i can't remember anything new, only the old one
>>
>>67977148
There was no soundtrack just background music. Watch the old movies and then compared them to TFA and you'll notice that John Williams got fucked in this. There's at least an hour of total running time where his music is either nowhere to be heard, soft quiet "music" that you can barely hear because of how cucked Williams is, and as I already music that never takes center stage because JJ thinks he can tell a Star Wars movie without Williams and guess what? He's right!
>>
Original score? More like original BORE.
>>
>>67977607
You're an idiot.
>>
>>67977682
No he isn't you cucklord

Music was on the whole, shit.
>>
>>67977752
The music was outstanding. Every new leitmotif is memorable. The issue is that you don't want a film score, you want meme pieces the become the central focus of the audio track because Lucas thought that John Williams might make the horribly put-together scenes more bearable. The music in TFA actually support the scenes and become good emotional cues for the audience.

Humongous bait. Music was AWFUL in the title crawl, terrible mix.

Shitty new leitmotifs in the shitty space opening with the ugly meme star destroyer going over the ugly matte shit planets that look worse than tatooine 45 years ago

Music was shit tier, kylo ren shuttle landing was almost good but didn't have that williams perfection

I know you're grasping for good things about the movie but they're just not there, music included. It wasn't great. You just listened to it on repeat.

Music was shit when han solo died, completely wrong

Music was unsatisfying, would be shit until force theme which you then got cucked out of

Reys theme was decent enough for harry potter. Jedi steps was just cucking and music reusal

Resistance march sounds like a shit worse version of battle droid theme in episode 1

Note im not putting any effort into my post here bc of how bad the music was
>>
>>67976869

Rey's Theme, March of the Resistance, Jedi Steps, Kylo's theme...
They were many good memorable tracks on TFA's score, even if the movie was bad

Here lads, have a great ROTS mix that includes a lot of missing music. Listening to this + Saving Private Ryan reminds of what a god-tier composer Williams is.

All great. It actually sounds like Star Wars, unlike a choir singing in Sanskrit.

>Resistance march sounds like a shit worse version of battle droid theme in episode 1

You my good man are the first person i've come across who's said that, it's exactly what I thought when I first heard it. I'm not a musician but the March and Battle droid theme sound so similar.
>>
>>67978330
I cannot for the life of me understand how any "fan" can like Jedi Steps. Its feels like Rey is going to Hogwarts instead of meeting Luke.
>>
>>67978548
'Feeling' like Star Wars is such a terrible argument, especially when Duel of the Fates was nothing like any of the previous pieces in the series at the time

>Star Wars music should stay exactly the same- no, it should have a WORSE SOUND MIX THAN THE 1977 FILM. Duel of the fates sucks because it's different!!

This is prequel hating on a whole new level. I'm not saying the music was bad in itself, but it was used terribly throughout the movie, it was almost cheesy. There's nothing wrong with a score carrying a movie either. And in the case of TFA, it didn't strengthen the movie the same way ROTS' tour de force of space opera did.

>not refuting any of my points
Dropped

>>67978437
It's like he took the essence of that theme and added useless notes to it, I don't know how to explain it. God I can think of 10 better leitmotifs for the X-Wings-over-the-water-on-forest-biome-planet scene. If your new leitmotifs aren't that good, don't use them! Almost a metaphor for the entirety of TFA.

>>

Duel still feels and sounds more like Star Wars and I know Harry Potter music when I hear it, I got 9 movies to go by.
>>
the only good track was jedi steps

kylo ren theme is overrated as fuck. it sounds like filler for something else coming because the imperial march is impossible to top and sheev's theme is great too. duel of the fates is also great.

williams couldn't outdo himself this time. happens. he might do it in episode 8 just because the imperial march wasn't in 4

I'm astonished that you actually think that opinions with unfalsifiable subjective arguments constitute 'points.' I didn't address them because they'd amount to nothing more than 'nuh-uhs.' Criticism always comes across as more legitimate than praise for those very reason.

My point isn't that Duel of the Fates is bad, it's that in the prequels the score became one of the most upfront aesthetic elements of the movies. It was basically an operetta rather than a movie. That's fine. TFA's decision to not do that is also fine.
>>
>>67979015
>TFA's decision to not do that is also fine.
You're saying having objectively worse music than the previous films is fine then?
>>
>>67978849
>Kylo Ren's leitmotif not being the best Star Wars music since across the stars
It's actually fucking great. It's like half complete or something, like the Tristan chord. Imparts a feeling of unease
>>
>>67979130
Don't use the term objective when referring to one of the few things that are actually subjective. And no, I don't accept the premise that it's worse.
>>
Lucas told Williams to drop the ball as a final act of revenge. Wasn't that obvious?

>It's like half complete or something
Like every other motif in the movie. None of them are ever "satisfying", but fleeting. Maybe that's what >>67979015 means with his unintrusive music fetish..

>>67979230
It's worse family
>>
>>67979329
>satisfying
What a bitch. The Tristan chord is one of the greatest pieces of music in history precisely because it's a ball tease. It sounds depressing because your brain expects a full, proper chord progression by you don't get it until 4 hours into the opera. You can't take a little atonality?
>>
Is Rey supposed to be a legal aged sexually active woman?
>>
>>67979548
No, she's supposed to be plain enough for feminists to project onto, but not ugly enough to turn off the beta-males who watch star wars
>>
>people actually like Rey's theme
I guess the start is okay but it just gets so bleh.

The only music I really loved was the song from the opening action scene when Kylo's ship was touching down.
>>
>>67979450
>It sounds depressing because your brain expects a full, proper chord progression by you don't get it until 4 hours into the opera.
No, we didn't get the full chord progression because Williams didn't compose one.
>>
>>67979450
Go listen to that Cantina song from TFA for four hours and get back to us.
>>
>>67979714
The cantina song written by Liz-Manuel Miranda, one of the most respected Broadway composers alive who created a musical that Michelle Obama called the greatest peice of art of all time in any medium? What does that have to do with John Williams?

I talk in complete sentences because I'm too hip and refined for "meme speak" on an anonymous image board.

I like film scores that are lazily slapped together, and reason that, since they aren't actually put in the foreground of their respective film, they are purposely composed for this function.
>>
>>67979794
Nigga I wasn't talking about Williams, I'm talking about the music for the movie as a whole.

The soundtrack was bland for the most part, rarely rising above mediocrity and all too often dipping into "ew".
>>
>>67980039

i can sing the majority of the harmonies for those new pieces, especially rey's, which is my favorite from TFA.

i can only remember duel of fates from the prequels and nothing else. oh and the mustafar duel music. that's it.

i felt the mixing in general was good but i hate how the lightsabers sound in TFA. kylo's is new obviously so his is fine, but anakin's/luke's blue saber sounds fucked up, and during the duel in the forest the saber hum was super low in comparison to how they sounded in the OT, don't know how they managed to fuck ben burts classic saber sounds while visually making the sabers refreshing to look at.

Zimmer doesn't write his own music, it's done by his clones at Remote Control, the same people shitting on the majority of big budget movies with their scores.

John Williams, Ennio Morricone, James Horner, Alexandre Desplate, Patrick Doyle, Alan Silvestri. Listen to some real film scores and get back to us when you have some taste.
