The Hobbit was a series of movies with a tone that had already been established in Lord of the Rings. Same director, same author of the source material, same setting.
The overuse of CGI in the Hobbit is something altogether different because it runs against the nature of the established filmmaking theme that everyone expected.
This is the first movie of a new series that is completely unrelated and thusly, it has the right to establish its own filmmaking style.
