2) A far better work ethic. Acting jobs are incredibly scarce, meaning that all prospective actors are told that they're never too good for a role, no matter how minor, because you should always be working. it has the added benefit of allowing movement between supposedly lower tier areas of work while not affecting their reputation. As a Brit, frankly I think it is probably far more arbitrary than that.
I think maybe British actors are slightly better on average, and this means that when casting directors are faced with 10000 applicants for a role, they simply select applicants to audition based on arbitrary things like nationality and education.
