I just finished Blade Runner and I don't really know what to feel, it may be aesthetically one of my favourite films. Is there a /tv/ approved list of cyberpunk-core?
Don't bother.
You just watched the best. Nothing comes close.
>>67970494
Really? I was hoping Blade Runner didn't set the standard for cyberpunk films.
>>67969331
Your best bet with actual good cyberpunk is anime.
-Ghost in the Shell 1-2
-Battle Angel Alita
-Armitage III
-Bubblegum Crisis

Are you serious nigger? Try to name another cyber punk movie that a normie has heard of? It is the only cyber punk movie. It's also a top 10 movie so there's that.
Just be happy they haven't remade it yet with that moron from parks and recs yet.
There is only Blade Runner.
...until Blade Runner 2.
>>67969331
Johnny Mnemonic I suppose. But it's a full-on 90's movie.
Nothing really tops Blade Runner in film. You could go to video games or anime and other places for good stuff like Ghost in the Shell or Deus Ex

Tron Legacy is the only thing that comes to mind. Total Recall remake if you're desperate.
>tfw we'll never get a Neuromancer movie with the aesthetics of Blade Runner mixed with the aesthetics of Legacy
Kill me in my sleep.

Hahaha this.
Blade Runner benefits from multiple watches also. My first watching I thought it was nothing special, the second time it became my favourite movie.
>>67972343
>Blade Runner 2
I forgot that this is gonna be a thing
fuck the world
>>67972750
>Deakins
>Villeneuve
>Ford called it "the best script he's ever read"
>Gosling
Guess you could say I'm feeling hopeful.
>>67972750
>>67972951
Now that I think about it, Gosling would be a prefectreplicantfor Ford.
>>67972750
>not being excited for Blade Runner 2
>Harrison Ford returns
>written by same writer of original BR
>directed by based Villeneuve
>shot by based Deakins
>starring based Robin Wright and based Gosling

I, Robot
A.I. Artificial Intelligence
Minority Report
Total Recall
Equilibrium
Terminator 4
GunHed
Acting is shit but it has some pretty neat practical effects and aesthetics.

The only way this could fail is with extreme (and incompetent) executive meddling.
If the goal is to make a good movie, it will likely be that. If the goal is to earn as much money as possible by cashing in on Blade Runner hype than there's a good chance it will be shit. Which studio is producing it?
>Blade Runner
>cyberpunk
kys
>>67973038
We got Dave Bautista onboard as well, he'll probably inhabit the same type of role as Leon.
So was Donald a Republican or a Democrat I didn't pay much attention
>>67973060
OG Terminator is probably a better example than 4.

OP, CHECK OUT REPO MEN!

This, true cyberpunk coming through
>Hardware
>Tetsuo the Iron Man
>Burst City
>Death Powder
>The Red Spectacles
>Genocyber
>964 Pinocchio
If you want the true punk experience in science-fiction film form those are some real options.
Alternatively OP, if you just dug Blade Runners aesthetics and/or story themes I'd recommend looking into
>Altered States
>Thief
>Beyond the Black Rainbow
>THX1138
>Ghost in the Shell
>Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence
>Mamoru Oshii's Kerberos trilogy
>>67973401

There isnt sadly.
Read Philip K. Dick's novels. Thats the best I can do.
Strange Days is alright and sort of fits.

this desu.
I'm not trying to be an edgy contrarian here, but in this case, the more popular it is, the worse it will most likely be

>>67973706
The movies are good for Mamoru Oshii + Kenji Kawaii, if you watch the two movies and decide that you like GitS so much you want more even without absolute top-notch direction and scoring thdn I'd recommend the show (made after the movies, emulates their style) or the manga (more its own thing distinct from what Oshii turned it into. )

Any executive meddling can't be as bad as it was for the first one.
>>67973607
PKD isn't that cyberpunk, his writing is more like Robert Anton Wilson combined with genre pulp than cyberpunk.
I honestly think that Thomas Pynchon might be the most cyberpunk writer, his intentional subversion of all that we consider right and normal combined with the anarchic and anti-dehumanization themes that are found throughout his work are punk as hell.

I honestly don't understand studios. Only wannabe film nerds care about Blade Runner. Its too boring for general audiences. The studios are really running out of IPs if they're now trying to cash in on Blade Runner of all things. I'm excited because I love the original and everyone involved with this new one, but I highly doubt the film will be a smash hit unless its marketed as a sci fi action flick.
>>67969331
I just love when new generations discover the great films of the past, not conforming only to the garbage Nolan and Snyder make.
Now, kōhai, go and watch Altman and Polanski, and move on.
>>67974395
>The studios are really running out of IPs
Have there been any new original IPs that have spawned franchises? Adaptations like the Hunger Games and the MCU don't count. I'm talking about completely original IPs like Star Wars and Indiana Jones in the past.

m8 I'm soo soo sorry to be the one to have to tell you this. They're not just going to market it as a sci-fi action flick, they're going to turn it into one.
>>67974694
I trust Villeneuve. Doesn't seem like he's interested in making traditional action-packed normie films.
>>67974864
>making traditional action-packed normie films.
Did you even watch Blade Runner?
>>67975117
Are you claiming Blade Runner is an action packed normie film?
>>67975166
Oh fuck, I misread your original post.
You won't find much worthwhile cyberpunk outside of literature but you can give some nip shit a try. Surprisingly, they're the best in faithfully bringing the movement's spirit into the visual media, while also doing their own thing to avoid ending up as derivative shit.
Go for Tetsuo: the Ironman, Serial Experiments Lain, or Akira.
