Thoughts? I'm thinking this could be possibly good now that I've seen the trailer. At first I was kinda thinking it would be shit without Merchant but I'll give it a go

Better link for everyone to see
>>67963737
Can he be funny without acting like a loser or someone else to kek at?
>>67963811
Nope, but I don't mind it. That's his shtick and I think he's pretty good at it.
>>67963737
Is this always how he played David Brent? I never watched the original Office.
It just seems horribly overacted.
>>67963956
its a bit forced
i certainly don't remember them smash cutting to awkward reactions that often
they were more subtle rather than someone whispering "oh christ" when he walked into a room
by the looks of it he is going to play a flanderised version of brent the entire time, rather than him being awkward and weird, and building up his frustration
>>67963737
Not too thrilled after watching the trailer desu. All the "cum" jokes seemed to push his banter just a little too far, out of believable territory. It loses some of that faux-unscripted brilliance the original had and becomes "le cringe man" doing his shtick.
>>67964240
Ill watch it anyway even bad british humor is passable.
Looks cringe though
Looks shit and I'm pissed off he's including more anti Christian propaganda in one of his shows. We get it you're an atheist, now be funny funny man
>tfw he's become exactly like the types of comedians he was making fun of in Extras
>>67963737
Not gonna bother, it'll be shit.
>>67964348
>He's angry that someone is insulting his precious sky wizard
>>67963811
> I've never seen his first two stand-ups
Really, just go and watch them today. You won't be disappointed.
>>67963737
>atheist
DROPPED
>>67964437
He's not a wizard, he's a god you bellend
>>67964282
>Looks cringe though
Did you ever watch the office?
>Merchant isn't writing
>Gervais is the main character
it's going to be shit, Gervais is the least talented person on The Office and cannot carry a film
>>67964612
Oh don't be thick
>>67964370
Extras was pretty dire desu, anything where he puts himself as the main character is bad. Office was great because of Merchant's writing and Freeman's performance.
>>67964682
Merchant is obviously a talented comedy writer but I don't know where the idea that he was the true brains behind the Office came from. I don't particularly like Gervais as a person but it's hard to deny that he's also a good writer and his performance on the Office was definitely one of the best.
>>67964763
>I don't know where the idea that he was the true brains behind the Office came from. I don't particularly like Gervais as a person but it's hard to deny that he's also a good writer
>>67964812
>Implying the first series of Derek wasn't great and didn't make you tear up at the series final
>>67964605
Same thing though, innit lad?
Remember when Ricky Gervais was still funny?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAnIOCIBFR4
>>67964812
Well yeah, but that's when he became a sanctimonious prick and got a massive ego. He needs a co-writer to tone down the more stupid shit
>>67964866
i didnt even make it to the series finale, it was a terrible unfunny show.
>>67964883
I think you can tell which parts Ricky wrote and which parts Steve write like that goblin and elf stuff was definitely Steve whereas cringe dance was Ricky and since Ricky is writing it all it's probably 100% cringe
>>67964887
At least watch it for Karl's parts, he left in series 2 so you don't have to watch it all
>>67963737
Fucking hell. It's like watching a David Brent impressionist who is hamming up all of the mannerisms.
What the hell, when was this announced? I can't believe he would still be hung up on that character of all these years. It's going to be absolute trash. Everyone is already completely sick of Ricky. That's insane.
That's mental, that is
Of course it's not as subtle as the show. The show was a late night cult BBC 2 comedy aimed at Guardian readers this is a mass audience popcorn flick aimed at the meme generation.
>it's 'nobody laugh during funny situations' and everyone is super awkward instead man
fucking one trick pony or what
he should make a show where hes a stand up comedian and nobody laughs
CLASSIC INSTANTLY
>>67965154
>cult show
>the office
>cult
It might be cult now, be it was definitely not cult when it aired. Everyone knew David Brent's name when it was on
>>67965186
He has. It's called 'Animals'
>>67965336
The first series got around 1 million viewers. The BBC almost cancelled it. A show doesn't need a lot of viewers to generate hype. Game Of Thrones gets half that in the UK but you'd be hard pressed to find someone who hasn't heard of it.
there's no chance this will be good
Karl needs to act more
>no Stephen
>no Karl
flop
>>67965408
Yeah then that doesn't make it cult? Game of thrones isn't a cult show, neither is the office
>Cumin to cinemas this August
Laughed out loud
>refuse to do more than 12 episodes because you don't want to 'sell out'
>have a decade and a half of mediocrity and failure
>ressurect the character, now that nobody cares and 'regular joe' documentaries aren't in the zeitgeist anymore
>your original writing partner wants nothing to do with it
getting old sucks
>>67965640
it worked for alan partridge
although i do think alan partridge had armando iannucci on board
>>67965640
Merchant didn't even know he was doing this, also extras was god tier
>>67965516
This.
Gervais is hit and miss for me at the best of times. With no one to temper him, he'll be an insufferable cunt.
A pint thereof
DUDE, yeah, you know what I mean, hahaha (looks at camera) LMAO!
this looks fucking horrible
This looks bad.
>>67964240
/thread
>there are people who are so autistic they are incapable of watching cringe humor because they project themselves onto the person in the cringey situation
>I've ran out of ideas so lets go back to something everyone knows
>>67965408
UK population was only about 58 million when it aired you retard. Game of Thrones had viewership of 2 million in US where the population is 318 million. It was unarguably more popular than Game of Thrones when it aired.
Its like the matrix guys. The first one they spend four years writing, and then everything after their initial brilliance is just breezed over
>>67966684
feeling for the characters is empathy, the exact opposite of autism
>>67966755
he's also got special correspondents coming out. but yeah, he should move away from brent, it's becoming embarrassing.
>>67966878
>>67965408
and the christmas special was watched by over 10% of the population, proportionally higher than Breaking Bad finale and the season 5 finale of GOT added together
>>67963770
>Comments are disabled for this video.
He really is shit without Merchant to write his jokes.
>>67963737
Why do he and Merchant literally never collaborate on anything anymore?
>>67967825
Just doing seperate stuff I suppose? I miss Ricky Steve and Karl all working on one project
>>67967825
because merchant has realized that gervais is a fucking hack
>>67963737
dunno if I can watch it when it's this self-aware
