No, it's the best Star Wars of the lot giant space worm and all.
>>
Nope, not at all.

It beats Raiders as the best film that Lucas was ever involved with, and I have a hard time seeing it as anything other than the best pulp sci-fi film ever made.

Turn off you computer, lie down, stare at the ceiling, and think about what you just posted.

No. The best (and the only truly great) Star Wars movie.

Not afraid to take the series in a different direction while expanding the universe and the mythos.

Best and most memorable soundtrack (Empire March, Love Theme, Asteroid Field).

Best lightsaber duel that hits the sweet spot of excitment, without turning into that pathetic circus shit from the prequels. Yoda was amazing, Luke became his own character, instead of being an audience surrogate, Han and Leia were amazing, C3PO was funny, Vader was a badass.

Salah was more annoying than any part of TESB, and while Raiders had the better girl, TESB had the better climax.

But it's a narrow victory, to be sure, and the music, the ensemble cast, and the groundbreaking SFx work push it past Raiders.

No, best overall soundtrack, most diverse and alien environments, one of the most tastefully done romances, the most philosophical of the films, balancing action with character building perfectly and some fucking sick kino during the climax on Bespin in particular.

ESB was fucking genius, it was Lucas at his best, focusing on production and coordination, selecting a perfect team to execute his vision flawlessly. It was when he was doing everything in ANH that they had to save his film in editing, and as he started getting more involved as his heart got better after ESB that quality began to take a downward turn again.

The most iconic scene in the entire franchise. ESB is a masterpiece of cinematography
>>
>>67953565
This.

The characters were so much more developed, and the tone, world-building, and even the costumes and the characterizations of the Rebellion (and arguably the Imperial fleet) were so different from Star Wars that TESB should almost be considered a soft reboot.

When you break it down, on every level it was as different of a film to the original as The Wrath of Khan was to TMP, if not more so.

It was in his artwork for TESB that McQuarrie leapt past Ron Cobb, Syd Mead, and Andrew Probert as the greatest sci-fi concept artist of all time.

His Star Wars art was mostly derivative, but the way he designed and depicted the technology for TESB and ROTJ were without equal, surpassing even the design work for 2001.

Yeah, Lucas' problem is that he makes himself erect too easily over his own shit, and keeps jerking it until his GOAT vision goes way too far. I hate when people act like Lucas sucks, because he really doesn't. He just doesn't know where to draw the line, he literally needs people to do it for him.
>>
>>67952468
Yes, only in so far as people pretend it's better than A New Hope.

People act like Lucas sucks because he traded in the artistic integrity of the original trilogy for the cynical cash grab of the prequels.

The prequels don't come off as his "vision" it comes off as a bunch of CGI shit that he packaged up to shove down the throats of autistic man-children.

If he was really an artist he wouldn't have sold Star Wars to Disney

This piece is what honestly pushed it over Raiders as JW's GOAT soundtrack.

The OT was George blending 70's New Hollywood sensibilities and cynicism with a 1940s serial cliffhanger structure, art/effects inspired by 2001: A Space Odyssey, and a plot structure plagiarized from Kurosawa.

In the case of the OT, he got the mix just right.

For the PT, he chose instead to blend the optimism of 90's cinema and art inspired by new technological possibilities with the plots of 1930's political thrillers and acting/dialogue inspired by the flatness of 1940's noir, along with more direct call-outs to his beloved serials.

Only in this case, the inspiration material was a little TOO esoteric for the public and the fans, and he got the mix a little bit off. In a lot of ways, he shot for the moon and failed but I can't fault him for getting burned by his own artistic ambition.

And any prequel even has an order of magnitude more artistic soul than any of the Disney films will ever hope to have.

It's like comparing Alien to Alien3 to Alien Resurrection.

Not at all. More complex storyline than ANH or ROTJ. Goat setting in Bespin. Plus, one of the most iconic lines of all time.
