Let's assume Thanos is more powerful than Mr.GrimDark of Thor 2, or Spacy McEdgeLord of Guardians..
How the fuck could even Vision, Hulk, Thor, IM, Scarlett take him - literally even Captain America (and all subsequent lesser heroes) would get their shit punched in like grapes.

Thanos will be invincible (barring temporary setbacks) until he isn't, then he'll immediately be defeated. It's more dramatic that way.

He's a nihilist, his allegiance is only to himself and to Death.
How he tries to prove the latter usually has to do with wanton genocide then getting butthurt when he realizes that's not what she wants.
