Why does Great Britain produce so many good actors?
>>
Theatre culture, land of Shakespeare and their young actors grow up acting in dramas for THE BBC

Young actors in America train by doing shitty comedies on Nick TV or are recruited by how good looking they are right after high school when they are waitressing in Hollywood

Theatre without a doubt. Forces you to get gud. Have to remember lines, your mark etc and get it perfect first time night after night. Being a mouseketeer doesn't really compare
>>

This, there is a huge culture of theatres here, we are fucking obsessed with it more than any other country on earth.

>>
>>67928106
Because they are the primary English speaking country that isn't America.

Americans overact even when they aren't acting. LOOK AT THIS HELEN they shout as tourists, while "admiring" something completely banal. Like children discovering something for the first time.
>>
>>67929940
They overact in daily life.
"Hey wassup my man ?! How are you ?!"

Funny that a lot of Britain's best actors have at some stage appeared in a Mike Leigh film. He simply does not use bad actors.
>>
>>67929874
Who is it?
>>
>>67930631
Mark Rylance. He's only very recently started doing film stuff, but pretty much everyone in theatre calls him the best of his generation.

>>67930631
Mark Rylance. Also the BFG.

British as he was born in the British Isles. Member of Great Britain and Northern Island due to being from Northern Island.

So, your definition, yes. And by technical.
>>
>>67931367
>DeNiro
>actual greats

Sure, if he'd died 20 years ago.
>>
>>67931363
People from Ireland are British. British Isles includes all the islands in this area. He is British by being a member of the political entity of Britain.
>>
>>67931208
>Born and raised in England
>Irish
Oh, you must be one of those retarads that considers Americans with Irish great-great-great-great grandfathers Irish.

Try and tell that to someone from The Republic of Ireland.
>>
>>67931424
A Catholic irish man born in the caliphate is still a Catholic irish man.
>>
>>67931447
The Republic is a part of the UK that broke away from it due to the UKs shittiness. People from there are still British.
>>
>>67931544
No, they are not.

British means from the UK if you are talking anything other than genetics/languages.
>>
>>67931544
Nope.
>>
>>67931629
So the battle if trafalgar was led and won by an Irish man? Interesting.
>>
>>67931600
I agree, but it's retarded that British doesn't refer to the British Isles. Though it's too late to change anyway.
>>
>>67931768
Just like American doesn't refer to someone from the Americas. It's not that hard.
>>
>>67930089
*kerbstomp
>>
>>67931447
They are not the political definition of British. They are the literal definition of British.

Until Ireland gets the world to not recognise them as part of the British Isle, they are British. As they are members of the British Isle. Their haplogroup is also the same as 70% of UK.

>>67931600
They aren't in sense of nationality. Remember, Nationality is essentially what somebody says something is. Why is San Marino a country? Why is Andorra a country? Why am Bermudian despite Bermuda being part of Britain. It's an oversea territory. Therefore it is part of Britain. Yet I am unique if I am from Bermuda? Same goes with French and New Caledonian.
>>
>>67930089
Fuck off americafag, of course we respect USA and most of their people. We are simply discussing actors from UK, over here. If you say that in 'murica there are more good actors than in UK, you are lying
>>
>>67931889
This is one of the most confused posts I've ever seen.

The "haplogroup" bit is the most baffling, is this what happens when /pol/ tries to into genetics?
>>
>>67931889
See
>>67931787

You seem to want the words to refer to different things than they do. That isn't enough to make it so.
>>
>>67931997
But it does. Going "I'm American" can mean anything from Falklander to Canadian.

Just because it's accepted that the term "American" refers to the "United States of America citizen".

Once again, they are not British in the political sense. They are in a geological sense.

People DO say "I'm a North American" or "South American". Just like somebody can go "I'm from the Caribbean". But there are dozens of countries there. From Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, to Dominica, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Bermuda, Cayman Islands and so on.
>>
File: haplo.jpg (134 KB, 743x764) Image search: [Google]
haplo.jpg
134 KB, 743x764
>>67931950
They are the same haplogroup as large parts of the UK. They are not a distinct group of humans. They are the same. They are politically different due to a country that wasn't a country becoming a country due to leaving another country.
>>
>>67931997
so what your saying is, if UK invaded Ireland now and annexed it, all those Irish people become British?
>>
>>67932078
>Going "I'm American" can mean anything from Falklander to Canadian.
No it doesn't, which is why
>People DO say "I'm a North American" or "South American"

You just defeated your own (retarded) argument. What a term is accepted to mean is literally the definition. That is the definition of a definition (lel).

The use of "British" to refer to the ethnicity is so limited, if someone says "I'm British" and you choose to interpret it that way (and the topic is not strictly genetics), you are willfully misinterpreting them on purpose, or just don't know the use of the word.
>>
>>67932111
And haplogroups are absolutely nothing to do with the term. Someone from Dublin is not the same as someone from Kilkenny.
>>
>>67932175
Yet I've talked to people who purposely say they're North American so people don't know where they are from. I've had both American friends who used to do it to avoid "FUCKING AMERICA! ILLEGAL INVASION REEE" and people from Canada do it to sleep with chicks who thought they were American. It's funny.
>>
>>67932136
Assuming Ireland was annexed as part of the UK then yeah they would be British citizens.
>>
>>67932230
My point was, they're not I1, therefore are not some magically genetically different. They are the same as the majority of the political entity known as the UK.
>>
>>67932240
...all of that supports what I just and and not what (presumably) you were saying? That's why we have terms like North American as opposed to American, because American being the official term for someone from the US, like British with the UK.
>>
>>67932261
so, despite UK not being a country named Britain, but an conglomeration of multiple nations....there is no such thing as "British".
>>
>>67932275
Jesus fuck you are retarded. What "they" are you even referring too? Those maps don't mean what you seem to think they mean, it's not like everyone in those areas are not the same haplogroup. Haplogroup has nothing to do with nationality or even race in the way you are using it.
>>
>>67929940
I love the earnest wisdom of the Americans you see on TV. All that folksy life lesson shite, it's adorable. I actually want to live in the US at some point, because it seems like a cross between Disneyland and a military base.
>>
>>67932323
The UK is shorthand for The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Island, with "British" being the official demonym. This part isn't even confusing.
>>
Because Drama class in school is mandatory from the age of 12 to 16 even if you're an introverted nerd who hates being the centre of attention ;_;

Drama class for introverts is like forcing left handed kids to write with their right hand.
>>
>>67932436
Actually that's nothing to do with being an introvert, thats to do with being shy.

Plenty of actors are both introverted and shy, it just takes being able to see it as liberating as opposed to FUCKING TERRIFYING AND HORRIBLE. It's a good way to deal with all that social tension for the spaghetti-droppers.
>>
>>67932491
Oh fuck off, no actors are introverted.

Acting is all about being an extrovert, just because Christian Bale likes his privacy doesn't make him an introvert. Drama class is hell for introverts, it's not fun at all and it's pretty much bullying and making you feel bad for wanting to be in the background and quiet.
>>
>>67932562
Again, you are confusing being introverted with being shy. Not the same thing.

Way more actors than you think are introverted, for the reasons I said. I mean, fuck, Mark Rylance himself is hella introverted.

For people who find social situations stressful, turning it into a facade and a controlled environment can be very therapeutic.
>>
>>67928106
Shakespeare is designed to inspire great performance in us all.
>>
>>67932630
You have no idea what introverted means, fuck off
>>
>>67932380
awww
<3 you too.

It all depends on where you are, here. Countryside, city, suburbs, desert... most of our states and cities have different 'personalities'. but I do think people here are mostly pretty sweet. Every country has some assholes, you know.

If you come visit, I think you should see and spend time in
Pittsurgh, PA

I love British films and lot of the celebs there. Would love to imagine what it'd be like to live there and hope to visit someday!
