Let's talk about American Crime Story season 1, which just wrapped

here's some questions to start things off
>why was the rapist waiter there at the end?
>why was the bobby kardashian payoff, that had been building over the course of 10 episodes, end in him walking out so passively?
>what was up with all the low angles in the last episode? Like every fucking shot was from a cameraman laying on the floor
>why was the payoff so weak for such a long show? it felt unresolved and dragged out over 30 minutes
>>
>why was the rapist waiter there at the end?
that wasn't the point, it was to show how the party was full of people OJ didn't know instead of his friends who obviously alienated him now
>>
Kind of an old question but why did marcia clark want battered black women specifically on jury to help convict OJ?
>>
>>67925073
because they'd sympathize with nicole and assume he did it
>>
>>67925187

but why black specifically?
>>
>>67925296
that I don't know. Maybe its because black women are more likely to have dated black men?
>>
>>67924444
>why was the bobby kardashian payoff, that had been building over the course of 10 episodes, end in him walking out so passively?
because thats how it happened I guess
>>
>>67925322

See it kind of bugged me later on in the show because it seemed like she was not trying to be like johnnie cochrane and make this about race and had chris darden forced upon her but it seemed like she went after black women specifically because they might be a problem for oj.
>>
>>67925296
it was racial stereotyping ok
the assumption was that black women felt oppressed by black men and that they got beat a lot, so would be ok with putting a black man behind bars

>>67925323
could have at least been a face-to-face confrontation where bobby explained why or something. It just feels so unresolved when he walked away like that. This is practically the only reason bobby was in the series at all. It's the only thing he was building towards at all, since there wasn't any prosecution going on from him
>>
>>67925073
because they've been beaten by black men
>>
>>67925296
black bitches hate white women being with black guys
>>
>>67924444
>why was the bobby kardashian payoff, that had been building over the course of 10 episodes, end in him walking out so passively?
Firstly, great quads.
Secondly, Kardashian was representative of all of OJs white friends, none of them ever confronted him or anything because they didn't want to be labelled as racist but they all knew the truth and just excluded him socially once he was out. Kardashian was just one of the last ones to give up and he'd been friends with him for years and walked away when it was done.
The Brentwood community were pro-OJ until the DNA testimony just like Kardashian(at least from what I've heard).

The only one trying to keep things reasonable.

I've been reading the Vulture's articles on it and a surprisingly large amount of it is accurate. They tend to play up some of the more personal shit (Clark and Darden's "romance", Kardashian's doubt, etc) but most of it happened.

>booby kardashian payoff built up over 10 episodes

1) Because they wanted to show how OJ's former friends reacted in a single character representing them all

2) Because they thought they'd get extra viewership with a Kardashian constantly in the movie, why do you think they had so many scenes with Kardashian's kids

Nothing could come close, but I feel like since not much(other than the court documents) has ever been shown about the Holmes trial, it'd be a great part of criminal history to adapt. Apparently it was pretty wild, lots of intense moments as the prosecutor's going through his history up to his murders, lots of psychiatrists basically inventing diagnoses and medical terms bout mental health. Dude had like 6 wives, I mean the whole thing is ripe for exploiting. We all know the story of Holmes and the hotel but not the trial. Also a late 1800's courtroom? Would be great.

Because that's how things happened as anticlimatic it may have been. They gave Cochran a character building scene when they showed one of his past encounters with the police so they did the same for Martha. Bobby just walking out makes sense for his character and is just what actually happened.

>why was the rapist waiter there at the end?

At the party celebrating OJ basically it was full of frauds. OJ though that the knew him personally. The Waiter was in awe of OJ as this new celebrity as a result of the trial than his career before. It threw him off guard. OJ realized his personal image has forever been changed

>why was the bobby kardashian payoff, that had been building over the course of 10 episodes, end in him walking out so passively?

Bob realized that OJ did it and it showed the end of their relationship. He never scolded OJ for it. He did a 180 of believing OJ's story to realizing that they got a murderer off.

>what was up with all the low angles in the last episode? Like every fucking shot was from a cameraman laying on the floor

Brings sense of despair for the outcome

>why was the payoff so weak for such a long show? it felt unresolved and dragged out over 30 minutes

It was not weak. It did not drag out the verdict by the jury. The episode is more about the aftermath of the verdict on the key players.

>>
>>67925073
1. From the start Marcia saw this and tried to sell it as a domestic violence and abuse case, when it was very obviously a race case. Her inability to read and connect with jurors was one of her greatest faults for the case.

2. The reason for having the case downtown and having a largely black jury was because they wanted to avoid race riots. Fewer things would look worse than an all white jury convicting a famous black person.

>>67932950
He mentioned in interviews that he doubted he was innocent and was very deeply troubled by the entire ordeal. He also was somewhat friendly with
Marcia, coming up and saying hello to her a couple of weeks before he died of cancer.

Also some interesting reading on one of oj's attempted comebacks before he went to prison. Like in the show, it took him a while to see that no one really wanted any part of him and it hurt him bad. Though one of his friends (likely robert) told the vulutre journalist that he was't worried about suicide because of the judgement OJ would receive after death would be much more severe than any judicial punishment.

>>
This all makes me wonder if OJ suffers from CTE.
It would make a lot of sense with Simpson's history of domestic violence and criminal behavior, even with or without the double homicide included.
all the abuse his body went through playing football. but it raises the question; if someone suffers from CTE and commits terrible and violent acts, are they fully responsible for their actions? since they are considered mentally ill, and hypothesizing or in theory OJ could suffer from CTE, is he the monster people see him to be or to a certain degree a victim himself?

>>
>>67942033
>if someone suffers from CTE and commits terrible and violent acts, are they fully responsible for their actions?
In his case, why should he be? He didn't get the trauma from a beating. He choose to play a dangerous sport.
Also
>Currently, there is no test for CTE, which can only be diagnosed by examining the brain tissue of the deceased
how would you diagnose it? How would you be sure he is not just a douchebag? The symptoms are too much advantageous for someone who is facing jail.

> is he the monster people see him to be or to a certain degree a victim himself?
Well, the show makes a point about his reaction to the events. He doesn't ask how his wife died and he is clearly more shocked of being left alone in jail than her wife's death.
>>
>>67942283
>should he be?
*should he NOT be?
>>
>>67942033
In terms of legality, if you are cognitive enough to know that you are killing people then you are fully liable, even if it's in a fit of rage or you aren't fully in control. The best they could hope for would be manslaughter instead of pre-meditative murder.
Isn't this kind of in line with Shapiro's black out defense?

>>67941711
Race was always going to be a massive factor whether the defense downplayed it or not. It's very likely that the slam dunk case was always a losing uphill battle for the prosecution the moment they picked a mixed race jury and all the defense needed was to create just a little doubt and the prosecution gave them more than enough.
