The only reason the early Batman series to justice League was so good is because Bruce Timm an co weren't afraid to tell the executives they were out of touch or ever so brilliantly twisted their words but still came out with a competent product.
Batman Beyond was the result of the executives demanding Batman should be in high school. Timm said they'd do it as long as the set in in the future. They grenlit it and Timm made it even more dark and even violent than the original Batman but it worked so the execs didn't complain. No one is looking at them now saying/doing the same.

Marvel and DC are constantly doing reboots/revamps/etc. It happens so often that it's actually comical, but it's also the best way to make comics accessible to new readers. Most people who take the first steps into actually reading comics are too autistic to start a series from anywhere other than #1.
All of these reboots are a little bit different though. They all have different terms and conditions that allow them to fit into the overall universes in creative ways. It doesn't change the fact that they're constantly being rebooted though, which in itself is kind of shameful.

He tries to clone himself, but winds up with a son instead, who isn't a copy of himself. He tried to hire the Phantasm to kill Terry's parents to "replicate" his origins, but she grew a heart and refused.
Bruce liked to think he was the master puppeteer who controlled everything, and Terry believed that and hated him a bit for it. But his encounter with Waller convinced him it wasn't true. He was his own person with his own life and beliefs and choices. He became Batman, yes, but because he wanted to, not because Bruce did.
Like Waller said, "You're not Bruce's clone; you're his son."

I honestly think they're using him for two reasons: 1) he's not an alien and 2) he's black.
Most of the other prominent Justice League characters are aliens or connected to aliens; Hawkgirl and Martian Manhunter were aliens in JL (I know Hawkgirl goes back and forth on this) and Green Lantern is inextricably tied to aliens.
The DCEU is very much playing up the "Superman is the first alien" idea, so they're using Earth-tied heroes. WW, Aquaman and Flash are easy, but then the roster gets shakier and you have to go to lesser-known heroes like Captain Atom or Black Canary. Cyborg is just known enough due to being on Teen Titans, he makes an in for the Mother Boxes, and he's black, so he helps diversify the cast.

Also you can't look at the TT series as aprt of any canon but it's own Go isn't even the same thing. The only thing that follow a continuity is,

Green Lantern and MM are inescapably extraterrestrial (the Corps are, anyway). Superman is the first alien in the DCEU, so it wouldn't fit right if Luthor had files on confirmed extraterrestrial influence on Earth before Superman - or he'd be obsessed with them instead.
I hope they bring both those characters in, but it's probably wiser to wait a bit.
