How do you turn Gundam into a movie?
>modern but retro 70s space tech aesthetic, like Elysium
>musical score featuring lots of quickly paced jazz and dark bop motifs, especially during action scenes
>robot designs that are recognizable but reasonably updated to look more like war machines than action figures
>story focusing less on mobile suits and more on newtypes
>plot revolving around amuro and char with noah bright as viewer insert
>brutal death scenes, people getting sucked into space n shit. Display the horror of war.
>make some of the names less stupid. Gundam has the worst names.
>remove all of the cringy touchy feely weird beta male heart of space shit
>insert some of that crazy pubescent mind game stuff from evengelion
I pretty much have the first act of this on paper.
I disagree with updating the looks for "muh realism", specifically by americans
Its a show about giant robots, just embrace it and make it cool not muh realism grey and black shit
Although this always clashes with the "war is bad" motif, but im sure it can work

I would love a zeta live action trilogy. just tone down kamille a bit and it would be great.
this is easier:
remake Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz movie into cgi. profit.
>>67880300
Also disagree with making it just about newtypes, make it equally about the suits and nts
Pacific Rim
>>67880214
>How do you turn Gundam into a movie?
Just remake the Mobile Suit Gundam movie trilogy with fewer, but more significant, action scenes, and fill up the rest of the time with more character development.
>>67880300
I wasn't thinking some far off alteration. Honestly I love the look of the image I posted, but I think it would be appropriate to slightly modify how Gundam looks so that it's clear why it's superior to a Zaku from a tactical and mechanical standpoint, i.e. if a Zaku is a walking tank, Gundam is a walking fighter jet.
>>67880389
THIS
live action Evangelion would make a shitload more money than Gundumb
>>67880410
It should definitely feature mobile suits heavily, but the big underyling theme should be (and kind of has been) newtypes. Like it's something hinted at and teased for most of the movie and then treated as a kind of reveal.
I thought it would be cool to have something like the zero system from gundam wing in amuro's suit, but it's a system that only responds to newtypes which is the reason he immediately wrecks shit.
>>67880581
Eva is way too weird and abstract from what little I've seen. Gundam is mostly about war being shit, and when it's not puking that message onto the viewer it's a very malleable and accessible theme.
>>67880380
Guncannon cutest SD

Evangelion was a commercial flop you know

ALL THESE DUB DUBS
>>67880389
Maybe not Endless Waltz, but Gundam Wing is actually probably the best Gundam series to make a movie out of. The biggest reason for this is NO NEWTYPES. Gundam Wing is straight-up space politics and giant robots without any psychic bullshit or Nazi ripoffs to confuse anyone.
Cast someone handsome for Zechs, cast someone slightly less handsome for Hiro, don't get an actress that's too ugly for Relena, and you can make it work.
>>67882244
Pretty sure Amuro is Canadian.
>>67880214
>>67882405
Newtypes were just fine in MSG. A lot more grounded and believable than something like the force in Star Wars. It's only in CCA and later Unicorn that they became retarded.
>>67882407
he was born in canada but he Japanese ethnicity supposedly
>>67882255
lol
you need to know Hollywood and the anime industry have very different definition of «printing money»
>>67882502
Okay fampai.
>>67882453
I just worry that you're forcing the audience to suspend their disbelief a little too much. It's enough that they have to believe in giant humanoid war machines. If they have to believe that AND believe in psychics it may be too much.
>>67882502
evangelion is the most commercially whored out franchise in japanese history

Only start with the original Gundam if you don't mind some sub-par animation every now and then. Some people cant get over it and it ruins the experience for them.
So if that bothers you, Start with the original Gundam movies, or Zeta gundam.
>>67882639
watch gundam wing first you can probably dig that

>>67880583
Nah part of the reason his rivalry with Char is so good is that Amuro progressively gets better each time they fight. I think it would be important to show that Amuro survives early on thanks to the Gundam being so strong.
>>67880214
>>musical score featuring lots of quickly paced jazz and dark bop motifs, especially during action scenes
This is the only thing I disagree with it. Just give Bear McCreary creative license to do whatever he wants.

Audiences don't control what movies get made, filmmakers do.
No love for 8mst?
>>67883108
You mean movie studios. And they only care about how much money a movie stands to make. A no-budget direct-to-video movie from 15 years ago that no one saw is completely irrelevant.
>>67883227
Episodes 3-8 of 08th MS Team would have been a good 6 episode series. The actual plot of the series that becomes more prominent towards the end is fucking terrible.

>>67882639
The hard thing about /m/ is that so much great stuff is standing on less accessible stuff that came before it. I'd recommend easing into it with some tangentially /m/ stuff before going full super-robot.
First things first if you haven't already you should watch
>Akira
>Ghost in the Shell
>Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade
>Redline
>At least a couple of Studio Ghibli movies
These are all very cool and accessible and should give you a feel for how anime does certain things.
Next level
>Ghost in the Shell 2
>Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honneamise
>Outlaw Star
>Cowboy Bebop
These are still nothing too 'old' feeling or weird so they aren't hard to watch, but they're a bit further along in terms of differentness. I made sure to pick ones with good English dubs so far too if that's your thing.
Now you're probably ready for robots
>Gundam 79
I went into this expecting dated weirdness, but it's still an incredibly tightly paced and well directed show.
>Super Dimension Fortress Macross
This one will probably weird you the fuck out, but it's meant to. The less you know about it the better. It can take a bit to get going but if you get into it it's fun as hell. And it lets you watch the sequel.
>Macross+
Macross+ is GOAT. The animation is tight as fuck and the story is short, simple and neat.
>Armored Trooper VOTOMS
After all the goofiness of the above stuff this one stands out a lot. It still has a lot of usual anime tropes, but it plays with many of them in interesting ways. The action is uniquely slow and tactical for an anime and it gets very interesting towards the end.
Next level, full blown /m/ mode
>Mazinger Z
>Devilman
>Cutey Honey
These are all written by Go Nagai. Go Nagai is your king now. Everything that is anime flows from him.
>Space Battleship Yamato
>Space Pirate Captain Harlock
>Queen Millenia
Leiji Matsumoto is also king.
>Space Runaway Ideon
The Gundam creators dark and weird followup project to Gundam 79. Hidden masterpiece
>Koichi Ohata

Remove the giant robots, and, depending on which story you go with, you have the makings of a good space epic.
Otherwise, it's just another children's show. It's the giant robots that kinda kills these things.
You can have freaky star ships, if you really want. Maybe even crazy techno-biological stuffs. But lego-bots are pretty much out.
>>67884001
>it's just another children's show
Yes, whereas the Avengers look really grounded and gritty, which is why those movies are so successful.
