It's so much better in retrospective. At the time it felt like a rehash, which it kind of is, but it actually feels like its own thing at the same time. Kevin Spacey was so fucking good as Luthor. My only complaint is that there should have been more dialogue between him and Superman, that he should have kidnapped superman's son to raise the stakes even higher, and that superman should have felt the kryptonite as soon as he landed on the island.

Gorgeous movie, scenes like the earthquake in metropolis that were very chaotic without being destruction porn like MoS, and some really cool little moments. ('Lois Lane??' As lex brushes his teeth, lex discovering superman's son, the kryptonite shank)

Routh held his weight. He wasn't Christopher Reeve, but that's a tough act to follow. His Clark was a different kind of dorky, more of a cute and cuddly nice guy than a spineless beta. Ad superman he was good, he just should have spoken louder. The actor who played Jimmy Olsen was likeable and Parker Posey was sexy as fuuuuuuuuck.

Do what I said above, and swap Bosworth for Parker as Lois, and this would be the greatest superhero movie of all fucking time.

The movie was dumb. If the Christian imagery bothered people in MoS, in here people would be vomiting because of it. Lex's doing another real state scheme. Thanks to the stupid retcon Superman not only his a deabeat dad but also pretty much date-raped Lois. There's no fucking action whatsoever.

I can go on, but seriously?

It's a quasi-reboot in the Donnerverse. The events prior are ambiguous. I just see it as a tribute movie, not a sequel.

Lex's plan was awesome. His heart was only half in the real estate part of it. This was his ultimate humiliation of Superman, taking all he has left of his father, making a giant mockery out of his homeworld- that's lethal to him might I add, while billions are also about to soon die.

Its similar to his scheme in the original, while being nothing like it at the same time.

I liked the scene where Superman flies all over the place, saving people.

That movie was shit. Your opinion is shit.

>Lex's plan was awesome.

No it wasn't inbred. The retard thought somehow he would be making money off of uninhabitable pile of rocks instead of immediately being jailed for his crimes. The movie was a disaster plot-wise, and only "muh-feel-good" morons like you defend it.

>he should have kidnapped superman's wife's son
Fixed

The scene where powerless dying Superman was in the water drowning with the family and the father came in a plane and saves them (he flied because Superman couldn't anymore and saves the day) was as close to fucking capekino as you'll get.

He was insane you mongoloid. He didn't give a fuck about the money, he had just acquired a huge estate and all that lady's riches. He sought out REVENGE AGAINST SUPERMAN

see

>>67869727

he was insane and his henchmen were stupid enough to mistake it for genius
>>
>>67869124
It's ok film, but effects in it are better than any capes hit that followed
>>
>>67869727
>he was insane
Nice excuse, did you say the same for BvS?

my wife's son ate a ton of chocolate the other night and he wouldn't go to sleep (we didn't know what he had done at the time because it was the same color as his skin so we didn't notice any chocolate bits on his face) so we put this movie on and in 10 minutes he went to sleep.
>>
I love it for it's connection to the Donner films but its very flawed. It's soundtrack is fucking GOAT.

I honestly thought it was great. The final scene with the superman theme was hype as fuck.

Facebook Lex was Joker-sane. He wanted to take out Superman so that when Darkseid invades the planet, he would deploy Doomsday to wipe Darkseid off the floor and take all the glory as the eternal hero of mankind to surpass all other legends. Plus he fucked with Superman to get a rise out of an otherwise invincible person.

So is it safe to say that anti-Superman Returns-ers have absolutely zero argument and hate this movie foe dumb, nit picking, superficial reasons or because it was cool to back when it came out because a more traditional Superman was "le lame".

>He wanted to take out Superman so that when Darkseid invades the planet, he would deploy Doomsday to wipe Darkseid off the floor and take all the glory as the eternal hero of mankind to surpass all other legends.

No. Doomsday was already dead by the time they sent in the swat to get Lex. Lex had no idea Darkseid existed before the communion scene.

My personal list of why the movie wasn't great off the top of my head

>Bad casting for Lois Lane. You need more than a pretty face. You need Chemistry and there wasn't any spark between the two leads. If you get a chance, check out the screen tests for the various actresses who tried out for the role of Lois Lane in the Donner films. There were a string of pretty faces but there was something magical when Margot Kidder and Reeve are on the screen together.
>The overall tone was too somber. Stalking your ex, eavesdropping, jealousy, abandoned child. Clubbed over the head with the religious imagery/passion of Christ re-enactment.
>Recycled Plot point- Artificial disaster to create Real Estate coup. Been there, done that.
>Superman disappearing for 5 years and no one wonders why Clark did as well
>The movie ends with Superman and Lois continuing the charade that Richard is the father of baby supes. Thats not the way a superman movie should end.
>Was able to lift a kryptonite island just fine
>it was a sequel to a movie that came out 30 years earlier. We needed a reboot, not one directors personal love story to the Christopher Reeves films.
>Very boring movie overall

It did have some good things about it like Kevin Spacey as Lex, and the art style was cool. I don't think the movie deserves the hate it gets but it's very much justified.

It was certainly deeper than MoS.
