How many people on /tv/ own a Blu Ray player?
>>
0 out of 10

thanks yify
>>
Yes I have a playstation
>>
a ps3, xbone and a normal one
gave the normal one to my parents and only use the xbone sometimes
>>
I use my ps3 but it pisses me off that the controls for DVD and Bluray are different
>>
I have a ps4, but I've only ever used it to watch a movie once. And i don't mean just blu rays, I have a Roku for streaming and what net-hul-azon doesn't have I just put on a jump drive and plug that in.

Is there anything more useless than a stand alone blu ray player in the CURRENT YEAR?
>>
>>67866967

I got a standalone Blu-ray player about five years back because I use cheap computers, got a decent TV, and I stopped playing video games years ago. So I wanted a simple dedicated machine since I wasn't going to get a drive/player any other way, and it's been fine.

It has some internet functionality that I haven't used in a few years. I should plug it into the internet and see if it wants to update its Jew-ware at all (famous last words?)

I don't. I have a 42 inch 720p plasma. Would I be able to tell a difference?

I have one, can't remember the last time I actually used it though.

And yes you would be able to see the difference
>>

Sounds dumb as fuck.
Why wouldn't you just have a bluray drive, and media player software?

I own a ps4 and a bunch of blu rays. It's easier to just pirate things on my computer than it is to get up and change discs, etc so that's what I do.
>>
>>67869066

I have one (a TV) that's a bit bigger and yes, you will very easily register a difference between a blu-ray and a DVD on such a display.

When I was younger and poorer about ten years ago, I pooh-poohed the difference and held out for a few years. Happiy I got more money and so finally I upgraded.
>>
I have a blu-ray player in my laptop, since 2012.

To this day I've never inserted a Blu-ray disc into it.

2, but not because they're blu ray players. One is my ps4, one came with my surround sound system. I just pirate 1080p blu ray files anyway.

I bought a standalone one for my parents a while back. While I own quite a few Blu-rays they never use them and just watch Netflix on it. Kind of wish I had just gotten them a Kindle tv thing now. Would have saved myself around 40 dollars.

I just use my PS3 for Blu-rays though.

>>67869407

I pirate shit I don't want to own or pay and arm and leg to go see at the theaters.

However, I like to own a physical copy of my favorites.

Streaming shit doesn't even come close to the quality either and I don't feel like downloading massive high quality rips of them and storing them on some fucking hard drive.

Plus, it's not like I run out and buy Blu-rays right when they come out. I look for them on the cheap when I can find them. 10 bucks for a Blu-ray of a movie I like is breddy good. The most I've ever spent was 50 on LotR special edition but that's more than worth it to me.

Normally? No more than 10.
>>
>>67869445
Nah, mate, my internet is good enough to download an 18 GB BD remux in about 30 minutes

I can settle for 9-12 GB rips, depending on length
>>
I don't have one currently, but I'm definitely going to get a 4k bluray player next year when there's more actual 4k bluray movies out.

TV signals are still 720p and streaming services have garbage bitrate so that will be the only way to get 4k content
>>
>>67869707
Maybe google fiber will come to your louisiana swamp town :^)
>>
>>67866967
I have a bdrom on my PC but used it 1 or 2 times. Remux is the future
>>
>>67869609

I'm the same.

Fuck knows how many times I've watched my extended LOTR on bluray and it only cost me £25.
>>
>>67869819
fuck off netflix shill
"""high quality""" netflix streaming doesn't even reach 10% of DSL top speeds.
>>
>>67869707

>TV signals are still 720p and streaming services have garbage bitrate

This as well. They won't be catching up soon either. The internet infrastructure, at least here in the US, is just not up to par to do that in quite a few places yet. My local cable provider could handle it if I upgraded to a higher package but still. It's just not happening yet. Also, we must think of our Aussie shitposters out there. They have it bad enough as is shitposting on, from what I hear, is some of the shittiest speeds of internet access out there.

>>67869819

Google Fiber is already getting fucked in most of the places it tries to settle down due to union constraints coupled with lobbying efforts. You'll be lucky to see it in a most major state capitols in the next 10 years let alone smaller towns and municipalities.
>>
>>67866967
I just have my xbox and both playstations. My parents have an actual Blu ray player at their house
>>
>>67870037
Unions and lobbies are such absolute cancer
>>
>>67870087

I can understand it from the union's worker's standpoint of Google basically bumrushing towns, creating new infrastructure, and possibly muscling out their jobs. I'd be concerned as well.

I mean, at the end of the day a Union and it's members are just the puppet the corporation that employs it.

Google just needs to give incentive to these people to be employed by them instead. Too bad Google's just a fucking tech company and isn't versed in the IMMENSE politics that go behind the scenes of what is essentially government sanctioned monopolies in many areas of the rural, and not so rural, US. All the money in the world can't break bonds like that. Endless pocket must be greased.
>>
I use my xbone for blurays and kodi and Netflix for streaming.

The xbone blu ray player has clear picture and much smoother frame rate than my actual standalone bluray player..

You don't need >LOL 1080p XD to enjoy movies you fucking faggots. Cucks are so fucking autistic these days over blue ray it's not even funny. I actually convert my DVDs to VHS so I can watch the movie the way it was intended. Takes a lot of work but it's worth it. I have a huge collection of VHS in my basement. Pretty proud of it.
>>
>>67870512

Well, it fucking should considering it still probably takes the lion's-share of blu-ray players out there.

How and why? The only thing a BD player should do is sending the digital signal to your TV. It shouldn't fuck with the color/sharpness/appearance of the movie.
>>
>>67870860
He probably doesn't have 24hz turned on in his Xbox settings, so the console is interpolating it to 60fps, making it appear 'smoother'

4K Blu Ray Player - $400

Movies $30 ea

4K HDR TV $1600 (You have to have HDR 4K tv or the colors are shit)
4K is't worth it right now.

If I could watch vhs again I would i,t wouldn't bother me at all.

Entertainment is subjective my man.I used to have to watch Mexican gameshows and pbs for like a year when I was little it didn't affect me at all.
>>
>>67872138
At 11 Mbps bitrate quality difference is quite literally indistinguishable, typically around 9-12 GB

But you can also go for full sized remux, which is the movie file from the blu ray minus all the extra audio tracks and other bullshit, those are around 17-22 GB

As for hard drives, WD caviar greens are dime a dozen, that's their thing, store loads of crap 4 cheap

So yeah, you're wrong and I'm right, and I'm not even the anon you replied to

Just ffmpeg the movie file itself via -vcodec:copy .mkv, that'll save you about 8 TB

ok, so id have to spend days: weeks going through my 250 movie library ripping 20gb remux files off of my blu ray disks and It'd still take up over 6TB of space

less convenient than actually using physical media. im sick of the meme that its dead and not worth it anymore
