That's idiotic, not only is Roland explicitly described in the books as looking reminiscent of Clint Eastwood, he's shown numerous times in official art from the hard back illustrations in The Wastelands and The Dark Tower.
Not to mention Gilead is nothing but future-past Camelot.
It's not even so much black casting in a role that historically wouldn't make sense, it's casting a black guy directly in contradiction to his written and illustrated description, with the only reasonable purpose being "diversity".
