OP, check out Lagaan. It's got a pretty western feel to it (decent budget), but also distinctly Indian. It's an epic about cricket. Covers Brtish colonialism, the caste system, etc. Not very deep and It's quite long, but worth a watch if you want to see a decent Bollywood flick.
