Does Warcraft have the potential to kickstart the age of vidya movies or is it just another piece of garbage?
>>
Watercraft will flop. Assassin's Creed will be an unexpected hit.
>>
Predicting it'll do all right. Normal folk will want to see what this whole "World of Warcraft" thing is about, since it's one of the only video games they've ever heard of and yet know nothing about it, and besides, it looks cool.

Kind of hype myself, but not expecting to be blown away.
>>
>>67841464
Why does Llane has sand in his hands in the forested hills of Elwynn Forest?
>>
could be ash, or scorched earth
>>
>>67841464
There has never been a single good movie based on a video game, whereas there were decent superhero movies prior to the Age of Capeshit. The Warcraft movie would need to be some groundbreaking hit.
>>
>>67841847
silent hill was OK
>>
It's a few years too late. WoW has lost 70-80% of the subscribers it had at it's peaks, in their last quarterly report they said they're not even going to give subscriber numbers anymore.
>>
>>67842195
WoW still tops 10 million subs everytime they release a new expansion. The market for a movie isn't any worse now than it would have been 10 years ago.
>>
>>67842195
Just because it isn't at its peak doesn't mean people who were subbed don't care about it at all
>>
>>67842464
This.

Every time my housemate and I see the trailer in front of a movie she's turned to me and said "I kinda feel like resubbing to WoW"
>>
>>67842195
Don't need to be a current sub to be interested in the movie. This argument is so dumb.
>>
>>67841847
There's always a first. Just needs to be a good movie to be the first good vidya movie, not complicated.
>>
>>67841498
>muh favorite gaem will be better than yer favorite gaem durr

At least try to sound somewhat objective and not like a total fanboy
>>
>>67841464
It definitely has a lot going for it, as well as against... But several things are indeed going for it.

It was done very patiently and they waited for it to get into the hands of the right people, crew wise; a great director with a good track record who we know is passionate about the source material; solid cast; etc...

Also apparently it has been very well received in pre-screenings for what it's worth.
>>
>>67841464

Nobody is aware this exists. Watch it flop
>>
>>67844331
You do, you're here talking about it.
>>
Everything has the potential for anything. If it actually will is another story entirely. I personally think Vidya movies are forever fucked because of meddling from the big companies. For example, i trust Duncan Jones to make a good film, but i don't trust a movie written by 3 screenwriters who are also Video game writers who objectively ruined the game they're now writing a movie for.

If a golden age is gonna start it's probably more likely to start with smaller productions of niche titles where the film makers are given complete control and free from the meddling of the rights holders.

But that's never gonna happen so this is the best we got.
>>
>>67844357

Just saw it in passing. I won't watch this shit
>>
>>67844390
There weren't 3 screenwriters. Duncan is the only real one. Metzen only provided a write up of current canon and assisted with lore knowledge and Levitt just made an early rendition a while back before Jones was even on board that was inherited by Duncan to do what he willed with it.

This is entirely Duncan's movie. He came in with a plan from the get go. Metzen and Blizzard had a vague idea what they wanted, he came in and pitched them something and they were entirely on board with it. He took over the reins from there. And I can tell you he's an incredibly crafty director who can make things work, been following him closely since Moon.

Also I know people love to criticize Metzen cause it's cool but remember he's the one who created all the lore from the start of Warcraft too so he also made all the stories we loved. Let's try not to forget that. And what you need to understand is despite people's criticism, Blizzard still has a very unique way of going about things. They like to make sure things are handled properly, no matter the time frame. And I can guarantee you if they signed off on Duncan helming this they are keeping Legendary in their place and letting Duncan get it done his way.
>>
>>67844443
You're in a thread about it so obviously some people will.
>>
>>67841464
Even if it's a great movie and makes a ton of money, no it doesn't
>>
>>67844958
It will for the simple fact that many projects are already on the bubble and it'll break the stigma and allow other projects to gain traction.
>>
>>67841464
god willing, the capeshit needs to die

The CGI looks like crap, the sexist orcs annoy me but at the same time Duncan Jones is a really good director. I'm indifferent.
>>
>>67845090
Marketing has been doing a poor job and the trailers are misleading. But the visuals are actually a highlight of the movie itself, you'll see.

World of Warcraft is well beyond its expiration date. Blizzard should have capitalized on the movie when Wrath of the Lich King was still fresh and WoW was a household name.
>>
>>67845321
I think it looks cool pham.
>>
>>67845349
>>67843879
>>
Normies aren't gonna be interested in this. Unless it gets REALLY good reviews its gonna bomb.
>>
>>67845349
There are people who haven't played since the RTS games who are thoroughly interested in the movie.

Also if people quit the game for one reason or another it doesn't mean they don't still:
1. Know about Warcraft
2. Still have fond memories
3. Are interested in something from the same universe that has nothing to do with how good or bad the latest expansion is

That really isn't a very good argument at all.
>>
>>67845503
Ask yourself why, unlike BvS, they're opening in staggered fashion in all kinds of markets before NA release.

Hint: Could it be so word of mouth and good reviews that they're confident they'll get carry it?
>>
>>67842195

The movie is NOT EVEN ABOUT WoW you dumbass, it's just Warcraft. By your logic, like literally 12 people will be interested in this movie.
>>
>>67841464

The recent posters have shown that they have no idea how to market the movie.

Normies will feel alienated by the high fantasy elements because Warcraft lore is fucking stupid. This movie won't be a massive success or a flop, it will just be forgettable.
>>
>>67841464

Name one "good" vidya movie

You can't
>>
>>67841464
Neither vidyashit, nor medievalshit sells well nowadays.

Game of Thrones would be the exception, not the rule.

LotR and the Hobbit was pure brand power.
>>
I have high hopes that this movie will be genuinely good.

Regardless it will do well because there will be a promotion that when you go see it you will get ingame benefits in Diablo 3, WoW, Hearthstone, HoTS, SC2.

People always site the dwindling WoW subscription numbers for why it won't be successful, which is a silly argument. Not only is the current subscriptions still significant, tonnes of people are also playing other games that originated from that universe, including League of Legends and Dota 2.
>>
>>67845861
I feel like most people who say Warcraft lore is stupid are just going off what they know from the games, especially the MMO (which is very limited), and not the actual lore of the universe.

There's a wealth of stuff out there, including many novels, and I feel people would be surprised how good some of it is.

Explain to me what's the difference between the green and tan orcs

Is one of them good and one bad? Why do they have different coloured skin? And why are female orcs pretty much sexy females with big teeth while male orcs are giant, hulk-like beasts?
>>
Just like how Mortal kombat, Silent Hill and Prince of Persia did
>>
>>67842464
I played since Vanilla and unsubbed during Cata. No interest in the game anymore but I'm going to see the movie purely out of curiosity.
>>
>>67845813
Why do you think they made Warlords of Draenor a time travelling alternate universe where players meet and hang out with Durotan?
>>
>>67846100
I think the amount of retcons and selfKnaak inserts in the books hasn't helped.
At least they never put Medan in the game.
>>
>>67846683
Green orcs have been exposed to Fel magic. (demon magic that isn't good)
Brown orcs haven't and brown is their original state.
>>
>>67846806

what about red orcs like w3?
>>
>>67841464
It's going to blow. I can tell just from the trailer that they're desperately trying to keep it interesting. The design of everything in it sucks, and the plot looks weak and disjointed.
>>
>>67846836
> and the plot looks weak and disjointed.
Tell me what you think the plot is then
>>
>>67842012
No it wasn't

They turned Jacob's Ladder - The Game into Shitty Witch Flick Dejour
>>
>>67846826
Extra demon influence and drinking demon blood twice
>>
>>67846826
that's from drinking the blood of a demon recently IIRC, happened with Grom
>>
>>67846826
Theyre completely addicted to demonblood
>>
>>67846836
Actually you can't tell anything from the trailers because they literally left out most of the plot. And I'm glad they're not doing what others movies do and spoil everything.

People will be surprised by the story. Only down side is you get normies (like you) who assume they know everything from a trailer.
>>
>>67841464
It's gonna be horseshit, but I imagine it'll make a good $350-$400 million.

This is just another cuck movie.

Orcs (niggers) are gentle, misunderstood, refugees from war. White men are evil racists who want to "unreasonably" kill them all.

Fuck Hollywood.

I have recently started playing war3 again and I am hype as fuck for this movie.

>>

>video game movie
>ever having potential

There has never been a 'good video game movie', ever, and there probably never will.
>>
>>67849926
I find it hard to believe they kill Medivh off in the first movie. They would really have to build-up the Burning Legion and especially the Sargeras plotline in order to give him a death that not only the fans who know pre WoW Lore get. Since he gets beheaded when he becomes corrupted by the Avatar of Sargeras the film makers should at least half-way explain who the fuck Sargeras even is. I believe that plot becomesmore prominent in the 2nd or 3rd movie rather than in the first where it's all about big dick orcs, pwning humans.
>>
Video game movies have failed to take off as a trend since early 90s if not even earlier. It's just not possible.

Well thats because they had basically no budgets, a shitty director like Uwe Boll, a shit script and actors who are nobodies.
They churned those low budget video game movies just to get money from the fans of the games and to get a small right to use the title.
