Hey guys! Recently I've enjoyed the movies Falling Down and American Beauty. And I loved them. I was wondering if you guys can recommend me some movies in the same kinda theme with the same kind of atmosphere, if you know what I mean....mainly where the main character just "snaps". I added a picture of Leonardo DiCaprio in Shutter Island where he is mentally ill and kinda snaps after a while. You understand what I mean. Appreciate all the tips and please keep the movies American and not older than say 1995. Movies like Fight Club are also cool. No bait. (Doesn't have to be, but) mentally ill main character that "snaps".
>>
Breaking Bad is also an example of what I'm looking for. American Psycho as well.
>>
Forrest Gump
>>
>>67833920
Appreciate the tip, but it's kinda not what I'm thinking about.
>>
I think you would really like Nightcrawler and There Will Be Blood. Also, Revolutionary Road.

Hey! I've watched Nightcrawler and I really enjoyed it. I fell in love with Jake Gyllenhaal(?) in the movie he plays a cop and are looking for a couple of girls, can't remember the name rn and won't bother to look it up. I also enjoyed him in Brokeback Mountain. Despite the gay scenes and it being known as a girl movie, I really like that movie. But damn in Nightcrawler I fell for him, hahaha. I will check out the other movies, and thanks!
>>67834270
Hey thanks dude, I will check it out!
>>67834298
Thanks dude, will check it out!!
>>

>>
>>67834386
hmm maybe also Rushmore, Royal tennenbaums.. and most Wes Anderson tbqh, usually has a mentally ill character that goes over the edge and conquers some fear through the experience
>>
>>67833803
John Wick is more of a revenge flick but similar to your description
>>
Fuck off, retard.

>>
>>67833803
The movie Super
>>
>>67834520
Thanks, but I've already seen it. Good movie, but I don't really like Keanu Reeves so I had kinda lowered my expectations before watching it. Sad though, I did like it.
>>67834386
Thanks! I've seen Kick Ass and I didn't really like it even though I think it was a good casting. Will check out the others, appreciate it! Also I've seen Rushmore, great movie! Haven't seen the others, will check them out! And no, I don't suffer from anything except epilepsy, haha. It's not triggered by light or anything, thank God. I can only have it when I sleep which is great - I'm able to have a drivers license and don't go around worrying if I'll have an attack at anytime. My girlfriend suffers from anxiety, depression and PTSD from an abusive childhood in a foster home, though. Dunno if that has an impact on me other than some really hard days.
>>67834575
Thanks, I will definitely check it out!
>>
Watch The Prestige
>>
Mad Max
>>
Also... birdman
>>
>>67833803
That Tom Hanks movie where he's a little retarded and he starts a shrimp company.
>>
>>67834890
thanks for the tips, I've seen The Prestige and Mad Max. I loved The Prestige but didn't really care for Mad Max, dunno why. I think the whole desert thing kinda ruined it for me. I've downloaded Birdman, haven't seen it yet though. Is it so decent that I should save it for a special occasion or is it meh and just watch whenever?

Thanks for the tips, but I don't really like old movies. I will however watch the trailers and decide if I think they look good enough to watch or not, though.

Yeah, I'm gonna be watching that.

Already seen it and enjoyed it, thanks tho!

Not sure if this entirely fits the bill, but Heat tells an action packed story of modern day desperados
>>
And also I really enjoyed The Virgin Suicides if anyone's watched that.

>>
>>67835204
don't save birdman, I found it to be disappointing. It doesn't really have any action to speak of like the other movies you have said you liked, birdman is a lot of san fransisco talking and emotions and shit

thanks! i haven't watched a lot of old movies before the 90s but I do love jack nicholson so i will check it out.
>>67835836
sorry tho..i haven't really watched a lot of old movies and whenever I've tried, the high pitched voices and bad acting (at least on the ones i've seen) has really ruined it for me and made me think bad about every old movie i guess. i will give old movies a new chance though, i never really did see anyone with a good rating.
>>
>>67835920
You should seriously, actually kill yourself.
>>
>>67835916
:( what old movies with the same kinda stuff i talked about in first post would you recommend then? willing to watch it

Like domesticity slowly choking the optimism and life out of a person before they snap?

I haven't seen this movie in its entirety, but I read the book. If the movie is faithful as an adaptation, it'll probably have the atmosphere you're looking for.

It even has Leo in it.
>>
that movie where tom hanks plays tom hanks

that looks good, but you know, I prefer the one about the box of chocolates, you know, the one with the retarded guy?

Michael Clayton

If you focus on Tom Wilkinson's character.
First time you watch the movie, he's just a dude who has lost his mind.
Second time, he's still crazy as fuck but you realize he has a point.
Third time you watch the movie, you suddenly see everything he is saying and doing.

Seriously underrated movie.
>>
The one where the patriotic, brave(yet slightly retarded) war veteran who was a star athlete and as American as apple pie and the missionary position snapped on the sniveling, Jewish looking civil rights activist for slapping the young white girl who got mixed up in all of it

You could watch Mad Men.

Don Draper consistently oscillates between temporary enlightenment and absolute shit-loss. The whole show is literally about a dude who keeps having mental breakdowns and runs away to California to nurse them.
