When did DC cause this much hype on people? How can it even compete?

https://youtu.be/Uv2NRpG76Pg?t=1m3s
>>
The big bad looks really stupid.

The new Star Wars created an interesting and flawed villain with an unusual motivation.

We've seen this guy a few times now. He's a big CGI monster who wants to collect all the gems.

Couldn't they have at least made a mask or used prosthetics or something? Have a real, talented actor walking around being all menacing.

This is just a cartoon character superimposed onto a live-action film. And I don't even understand who he is or what his raison d'etre is. Fuck this character.
>>
>>67827039
Tell me...does he quip?
>>
>>67827039
It's ok DCuck, Thanos is too deep for you. Maybe if you read a comic you'd understand ;)
>>
>>67827348
Why do I have to read comics to understand a film?
>>
>>67827209
He will
>>
>>67827039
Wow, you don't understand all about this character who has appeared for a total of 180 seconds in the last 4 years?
>>
>>67827367
Since when should kino have to forsake artistry for dull minds to comprehend it. The clues are all there and in the finale you will weep bitter tears.
>>
>>67827424

Yeah, so I don't feel any investment or stakes.

It doesn't help that he's a big CGI monster. When you were watching Guardians of the Galaxy, did you really feel like he was there? He has no presence, because there isn't anyone actually present.
>>
>>67827348
thanos? you mean the blatant ripoff of dc's darkseid?
>>
>>67827498
So you really expected them to explain all about him in post-credit scenes?
>>
>>67827498
Yeah I did.
Why wouldn't I?
>>
>>67827039
Kylo Ren is literally just a ripoff of ROTS Anakin. And not even a good one. You never really feel that he poses a real threat.

Thanos on the other hand is one of the most powerful beings that ever lived in his respective universe.
>>
>>67827039
Wow, they haven't explained what this character that will debut in a movie that's coming in 2 years wants?
Also, what stakes?
He's not doing anything yet.
>>
>>67827498
His 'lack of prescence' is a deliberate evoking of his other worldly malignity. You can't even grasp that visual metaphor? Pleb.
>>
>>67827569
He's had a couple of scenes now, with dialogue and everything.

He just sat in a chair looking fake. He's a big purple man who wants some gems. Gotta collect 'em all.

He has done nothing evil and given no sign of his personality or motivations. I'm sure it's obvious if you're coming from the comics, but right now he's just a featureless cartoon character.
>>
>>67827569
>>67827653
DCucks want shit spoonfed.
Oh the ironing...
>>
>>67827673
>He has done nothing evil and given no sign of his personality or motivations.
Because the only thing we have seen about him are teases?
Do you also complain when a TV spot about a movie doesn't tell you the entire plot?

The point of these teases is to show you he exists, nothing more, he's going to have two Avenger movies to show what he wants, his personality, etc.

That's bad storytelling, plain and simple.

I at least hope they improve the CGI.

based marvel, dcucks btfo, etc. etc.
>>
>>67827873
Yes.

And now it has the built-in defense that no matter what they do with him, you can claim it was set up.

Rather than introduce a solid villain with interesting/clear motivations and a personality, they had a CGI cartoon character who said a few lines to get nerds excited. In the next films he could be sympathetic, destructive, relatable, young, old, anything, because we know nothing about him. But any holes can be brushed over because it was "set up for years".

Plus on a technical level, he still looks awful. He's not a god-tier actor with a threatening presence, he's a 3D model. Here's a spoiler: to show how big and scary he is, they'll do a scene with all of the Avengers surrounding him at a low angle. They'll all back off and pose as the camera swoops around, revealing that he's 2-3x bigger than them. Threatening!
>>
I want to know how many quips per minute it will have

You are now aware that you live in a world, a terrifying world, where there are people right this moment who use terms such as "canon" and "cinematic universe" when talking about films and television shows.

A terrifying world where imagined characters on a screen are required, according to those who discuss them, to adhere to "ground rules" set out by the creators of said-characters. A terrifying world where those that discuss these characters and their actions, are actually enraged if said-characters deviate from the mannerisms expected of them, the mannerisms that may have initially been set in the pages of a comic book.

Think about that. A comic book. For children. Yes, pictures and words on the same page, which are meant to be read by children, that are actually read by adults who then bicker and express their frustration at film-adaptations of these comic books not being "faithful". Faithful to a comic book. That's supposed to be read by young children.

This is your world. This is the world of capeshit. Terrifying, isn't it?

Will the MCU collapse after Infinity War or will it make it stronger than ever? I believe mainstream interest will be too fatigued to even care after this, I don't even remotely see a post-Infinity War avengers doing so well, especially since all the contracts are going to be over and done with of the original cast who people have loved since the MCU began. My next bet is that Marvel will take things towards a more niche audience, they'll stop doing big screen productions every few years and just go straight for the small screen instead or Netflix, this is where the likes of Daredevil and a few others have proven popular. The next big Marvel team thing will be on the small screen and not the large one.
>>
>>67828266
I only see RDJ and Scarjo leaving the MCU, the rest will probably renew them.
>>

>>
>>67828299

I'm guessing on Scarjo it all depends on whether Gits is successful, if it is then she's gone and they can get someone new in, but if it isn't I'm guessing they will push for a Black Widow movie to keep feminists happy.

Why not? Yeah, it isn't the most interesting concept in the world, but Marvel has literally never made a bad movie. In fact, all of them but the Hulk are considered classics. Why Marvel just decide to start sucking out of nowhere?

>all of them but the Hulk are considered classics.

>>
>>67829212

Marvel carefully expands their cinematic universe and treats every movie like a building block that leads up to one gigantic culminating climax.
DC just wants to cash in on the Marvel hype and shill out as many movies as possiblw before Marvel ends their story.

Not that I expected any in the first place, but do they just not care about creating any tension in Civil War? Before the movie's even out you release trailers for a movie that shows the gang all back together again like nothing happened. Status quo is the worst thing to happen to comics.

>>67829477

To be fair, LEGO struck gold with Lego Star Wars and they have been rolling with it since then.

DC, on the other hand, had a good thing going with their animated shows and couldn't figure out how to capitalize on it.

The thing that annoys me is that they have an almost unprecedented ability to build a universe. They have had so many movies and so much opportunities to set up a big plot or conflict and this is what they have, magic beans.

They could have set up this plot in the first five minutes of the movie, purple guy finds some magic gems and proceeds to fight the avengers. Did they really need to set this up over the last 10 years? what a waste.

Deny thy Hammer and refuse thy...
Shit, Shakesperian marvel parody is a mind fuck, I'm not even close to getting the meter right...
>>
>>67833279
aaaaaaaaaaaaaand that's from the first line in Wikipedia's entry on the word Bard. Also, that doesn't tell me you know the definition, or what the other guy had been referencing in the first place.
>>
>>67833415
Actually, 'deny thy Hammer and refuse thy name' both scans and works within the context of the mythology.
>>
I was excited about Thanos when the first Avengers came out. Now I just don't give a shit
>>
>>67833428
I know it's a storyteller. That's why he said it was from Skyrim, faggot.
>>
>>67833586
You said that, actually.
>>
>>67833349
Yeah, they should have had Tony Stark build a suit in a cave then have him beat down on a God in one movie.
Thanks Snyder, we'll keep that idea in mind. This multibillion franchise of critically acclaimed and globally adored movies built on magic beans, what a waste eh?

Do you even read what you type?
>>
>>67826796

Why were people screaming so loud? Weren't these essentially just scenes from previous movies pasted together?
>>
>>67833648
Jesus Christ you know what I meant. I swear to god you people are all like 13.
>>
>>67833582
I felt mildly interested, but the more he just sits on his ass and makes threats, the more boring he becomes.
They need to make him do something interesting or really evil to showoff his 'power level' compared to everyone else.
So far he's just.. bleh. Marvel can make great superheros, but the villans have been boring as fuck so far.
>>
>>67833512
Fuck. Ah well.
>>
i dont mind marvel movies

but shit like comic con confuses me

grown men and women cheering and crying over movies made for children
>>
>>67833697
The point is the universe aspect is pretty pointless since nothing ever changes and every movie is basically self contained. The ultimate use of the shared universe is so you can point at the pretty gems and say ' durr that's the thing from thor'.

Honestly I always thought Glactus was more imposing than Thanos, because he's huge and eats planets for fun. FF2 fucked that up.

Now we have Thanos, Evil McGrimace who wants to control the universe by destroying it with shiny rocks...also Howard the Duck.

Like what the FUCK is even going on?
>>
>>67833697
I like Marvel just fine, but honestly I kind of agree with him. I've always felt like Thanos was non-related entity, and so far he hasn't been all that major a presence in any of the stories. He's going to be in the next Avengers movie, and honestly I don't feel like I know all that much about the guy.

'fans' of marvel movies are like 'fans' of star wars or mickey mouse; I enjoy those things sure but how can you be a 'fan; of such a corporate controlled mainstream thing?

>you people are all like 13.
Isn't that the insult that kicked off this whole hullabaloo in the first place?

>tfw you liked Howard the Duck but you're afraid to admit it because everyone just stares at you like you've just shit on the floor
>>
>>67833828
It's basic crowd mentality. A few people get super excited and cheers, ergo most of the group ends up cheering. Plus, I'd never actually dream of going to a place like San Diego comic con, but why shit on it? It's just a group of people getting together and celebrating the shit they love. People do that with any number of hobbies.

There's no point responding beyond stating you are wrong and asking you watch the films.

I don't get why folk get crazy in church, I imagine it's a similar thing.

Other than enabling Loki with a power gem and giving him an army. Enabling the DANCE OF BRO guy and giving him an army. Yeah not much.

Basically leading up to Infinity War the heros have been battling the minions of Thanos, who know they're his bitch. Hopefully they fix that going forward because otherwise it would feel stupid.

Also, after everyone fails Thanos he's basically a "fine I'll do it myself" bad guy, and creates the gauntlet. He's not handing out candy gems to assholes anymore. The real question is, how does he get all the gems...there's on in Visions forehead ffs.
>>
>>67834366
I already said I like marvel movies well enough, but I don't understand how anyone could LOVE them. They are popcorn movies, great for when you just want to relax and watch something mindless but how can you seriously have them as a major hobby/obsession?
>>
>>67834366
Oh, no, I totally get that they're just teases, but I just kind of wish they did a little something more to build him up, give him more of a sense of foreboding. I mean, I think the movie will be fine, I'm just sayin' is all.
>>
>>67834496
You said how could anyone be a fan of 'mainstream corporate controlled media'.
I take it you "enjoy them ironically".
>>67834534
I don't think foreboding is what they want, if anything, I think they want people to be surprised by Thanos' ability.
>>
>>67834687
enjoying a movie =/= being a fan. It's like you know all these movies are just fan service designed to separate you from your dollars but you just don't care. There's nothing creative going on here, it's all just a machine to make money. And yes they are enjoyable action movies with fun quips and whatever, but to seriously give it any more credit then that is frankly retarded. If marvel movies are the height of your entertainment then I just feel sad for you.
>>
>>67834889
That can be said of all major studio films. They might not all have the Marvel flavor, but if you think that they are designed to do all that much more than separate you from your dollars you're deluding yourself.
>>
>>67834889
>If they are the height of your entertainment
Hows the air on that high horse of yours?
You're a fan, worse you're a fan in denial.
>it's just a product
Teenaged much?
Everythings a fucking product, that's the world.
I can acknowledge they're popcorn action flicks, but I'm not ashamed to be a fan either.
>>
>>67834484
Vision has to die for Thanos to create the Gauntlet.

He also has to get the staff from Asguard and the one Star Lord/GotG have. How they're going to pull this shit off is beyond me...and I own the fucking comic books.
>>
>>67826796
I know it's mostly bait - I hope - but I can't believe people actually like marvel shit on this board. What are we? Co? What are you? Reddit man babies?
>>
so this is how cinema ends... with thunderous applause
>>
>>67835701
I like both DC and Marvel as well as mindless action flicks.

I also like things with deeper meaning, and film that makes you contemplative. I can separate the two.
>>
>>67829332
This.

They should've just made a Batman movie that featured Affleck alone. A new Batman vs Joker movie with Robin in it would be nice and at the end, Robin dies.

THEN at the very end post-credit scene there will be the superman attack and Batman running to save the girl. Now THAT would be a heck of a cliffhanger....

But nah, lets just rush shit up.
>>
>>67837143
I'd have loved that film.
I want to live in that reality.
